
Indirect Tax Analyst

Description
We are looking for an experienced and motivated Indirect Tax Analyst to support all U.S. and Canadian indirect tax functions, including sales and use tax, GST/PST, property tax, and other non‑income business taxes. The role will be based in Tempe, Arizona.
Responsibilities
Manage U.S. & Canadian indirect tax compliance with an external service provider to ensure accurate and timely filing of sales & use tax returns.
Oversee property tax function by generating/reviewing fixed asset reports so the external provider can prepare the annual filings.
Handle business licenses, gross receipts, secretary‑of‑state filings; prepare and maintain tax account analysis, reconciliations, and monthly journal entries.
Manage sales and use tax and property tax audits, including data gathering and communication with state auditors.
Perform research and analysis, apply tax laws to support technical positions related to the company’s business transactions, and review & validate tax exemption certificates.
Engage in process improvement and tax automation; liaise with finance/shared services on issues identified during the indirect tax compliance process (e.g., incorrect invoice postings).
Review, research, and respond to tax notices, inquiries, and questions from tax authorities regarding sales and use tax, property tax, and other tax matters.
Maintain indirect tax calendar to ensure all filing requirements are met; assist with special projects as needed.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field.
Minimum 5 years of experience in sales tax or a related field.
General accounting experience and knowledge of GAAP; multi-state sales and use tax and property tax experience.
Experience with OneSource Indirect Tax, Avalara Tax, or a similar tax engine; knowledge of SAP.
Intermediate Excel skills for reconciling/analyzing large data sets using VLOOKUPs and pivot tables.
Strong technical research skills, preferably with transaction tax tools (Checkpoint, TTR, CCH).
Ability to research, interpret, and apply tax regulations for multiple states.
CPA, CMI, or MS preferred.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong organizational and analytical skills with the capacity to work under pressure; self‑starter with initiative and independent decision making.
High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
