RECREATION SPECIALIST.

Duties Selects and emphasizes program activities to be offered, both those in the basic program's minimum essential categories (e.g., table game, writing and TV rooms, social educational and cultural activities) and those designed to meet specialized interests and needs, providing a significantly enhanced program (e.g., leisure services, information services, recreation activities that augment other military programs such as domestic action, drug abuse, self‑development, education, and interests). Plans and coordinates recurring and non‑recurring activities, special events, and joint community undertakings to maximize use of facilities, services, and resources. Schedules and publicizes community center activities from the standpoint of participant response, resources, unforeseen developments, and program objectives. Develops and executes programs for various special interest groups within the military community. Identifies need for plans and conducts facility activities during deployments, exercises, and other special activities. Performs general facility management duties such as tracking utilization, coordinating work orders, recommending improvements. Forms, justifies, executes, and monitors accounting transactions, budgets, and resources. Plans, prepares, and presents briefings and oral presentations as required. Accomplishes documentation in support of personnel action requests, awards and disciplinary actions. Performs assigned duties, providing guidance on new or complex tasks. Uses initiative to resolve problems and conflicts. Work is reviewed on a sample basis with evaluation reports and finished products.

Requirements

Complete a background investigation with favorable results.

Test‑Designated Position (TDP); subject to pre‑employment and random drug testing.

Complete pre‑employment checks per Air Force and DoD policy and a Tier 1 background investigation with favorable results.

Maintain a valid driver’s license.

Provide shift coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays or special situations.

Physical exertion: able to bend, stoop, and lift up to 30 pounds.

Qualifying Experience : Must have practical experience developing, planning, organizing, and carrying out projects related to one or more recreational programs that prepare the individual for the broader duties described. Must have practical experience and knowledge of goals, principles, methods, and techniques of recreation services and processes in a community center, including financial, program, facility, inventory, and personnel management. Must be able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Condition(s) of Employment : Physical exertion – bend, stoop, lift up to 30 pounds. Required to pass a pre‑employment physical. Must operate a 15‑passenger bus or van. Must possess a current driver’s license. Successful completion of Tier 1 background investigation, State Criminal History Records Check (SCHRC), and Installation Records Check (IRC). This is a drug‑testing position; the incumbent is subject to random drug testing.

Education : Some federal positions allow education substitution, but this position does not. Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used if credentials are deemed equivalent to a U.S. program. Provide proof when applying.
