The Employee Relations Specialist II is a professional consultant to HR Business Partners, Recruitment Teams, and HR Leadership/Managers offering research and investigative expertise to handle potentially litigious employee relations issues and any litigation that may arise. The role advises and counsels HR community, managers and supervisors on TD Bank policy interpretation, workplace issues, provides accurate investigations, proper interpretation and application of company policies, adherence to all employment laws, crafts and negotiates solutions, offers performance management consultation, conflict resolution mediation, serves as subject matter expert on applicable employment laws and represents TD Bank during mediation, trials, depositions, negotiates settlements to mitigate risk, analyzes data to identify trends, and participates as a subject matter expert during mergers and acquisitions. Roles & Responsibilities
Serve as a professional consultant to HR Business Partners, Recruitment Teams, and HR Leadership/Managers offering research and investigative expertise to handle more complex or potentially litigious employee relations issues Develop proposals and recommendations related to policies and practices within own specialized area, while understanding the alignment between own specialty and other specialized areas Interpret data and assess risk associated with policies and programs, make recommendations to mitigate risk and will escalating as required Work closely and effectively with assigned HR partners to ensure business needs are met; support integration and implementation of HR programs across all client groups Serve as a mentor and trainer to educate HR staff on skills and knowledge necessary to comply with policies, procedures and all federal, state and local laws Partner to develop policy, training and communications materials on ER topics for the organization Represent the company at investigative hearings, settlement conferences, fact‑findings, mediation hearings and depositions on assigned cases Investigate and properly document sensitive ER matters in conjunction with and in cooperation with the Chairman's Service Center and/or Loss Prevention Prepare, craft and negotiate legal documents and documentation required to properly communicate and memorialize agreements reached in employment matters for any of the corporate entities Serve as liaison with outside counsel and participate in all issues related to the timely and cost effective handling of assigned cases Develop and conduct a regular audit process of personnel files for employees identified to be at risk for litigation Education & Experience
Bachelor's degree or progressive work experience equivalent Minimum of 7 years of HR or legal experience with emphasis in employee relations PHR/SPHR preferred Demonstrated investigative, verbal, written, and negotiation skills Demonstrated experience providing employee relations consulting to all levels of management, developing recommendations and implementing integrated solutions and strategies Experience applying HR/ER policies, laws and regulations in a corporate setting Collaboration experience with cross‑functional teams to develop HR/ER solutions Experience consulting with internal and external business partners across HR disciplines such as Talent Acquisition, HRBP, Organizational Development, HR Operations, Compensation and legal counsel Experience planning, organizing and managing multiple concurrent and complex projects related to HR/ER initiatives Experience gathering, analyzing and interpreting HR/ER data and providing recommendations to stakeholders Confidentiality, strong ethics, compassionate focus on details Advanced proficiency with Microsoft desktop software needed to prepare exhibits and documents Excellent relationship management, collaboration, organizational and presentation skills Willing and able to travel to any corporate location on short notice to handle critical matters Physical Requirements
