Industrial Sales Engineer

About the Role

We are seeking a detail-oriented and technically skilled Sales Engineer / Proposal Estimator to join our Business Development team. In this role, you will develop cost estimates, create conceptual designs, and support proposal generation in a low-volume, high-mix manufacturing environment.

This position is ideal for someone who enjoys bridging engineering and customer-facing responsibilities while working in a fast-paced, collaborative setting.




Key Responsibilities

  • Review and interpret customer specifications, drawings, and contracts
  • Develop conceptual designs with a focus on manufacturability
  • Prepare accurate cost estimates using materials, components, and manufacturing data
  • Collaborate with engineering, procurement, and other internal teams
  • Source material and component pricing
  • Create CAD models and general assembly drawings (SolidWorks or similar)
  • Prepare and deliver tailored proposals and technical solutions
  • Respond to customer inquiries via phone, email, and in-person meetings
  • Maintain organized documentation to support project handoff
  • Assist engineering team as needed during low proposal activity



Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering (or equivalent experience)
  • 3+ years of experience in cost estimating or manufacturing/engineering environment
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes (machining, CNC, welding, assembly)
  • Experience with CAD software (SolidWorks preferred)
  • Ability to read blueprints and understand GD&T
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

Preferred:

  • Experience in a customer-facing or business development role
  • Familiarity with ERP systems
  • Knowledge of NQA-1 quality standards
  • Experience with steel fabrication and welding processes



Work Environment & Requirements

  • Primarily office-based with occasional time in a manufacturing environment
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented setting
  • Occasional overtime or travel may be required
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
