Our client is a well-established A rated carrier seeking a Commercial Multiline Underwriter.

About the Role The Commercial Underwriter is responsible for evaluating, underwriting, and managing a portfolio of multiline small commercial accounts, including Businessowners Policies (BOP), Commercial Package, Commercial Auto, Workers Compensation, General Liability, Property, and related lines. This role applies sound underwriting judgment, quantitative and qualitative analysis, and strong risk‑selection discipline to drive profitable growth and retention. The underwriter builds and maintains productive agency relationships through responsive service, collaborative problem‑solving, and occasional in‑person visits. The position requires thorough documentation of risk analysis, clear recommendations on coverage terms and pricing, and consistent execution of underwriting strategies.

Responsibilities

Underwrite and manage a book of small commercial multiline business, including BOP, package, auto, workers compensation, and related coverages.

Evaluate new and renewal submissions using established underwriting guidelines, risk selection criteria, and pricing models.

Conduct comprehensive risk assessments and document underwriting rationale, coverage recommendations, and pricing decisions.

Collaborate with agents to drive profitable growth, provide responsive service, and support placement strategies.

Monitor portfolio performance to ensure profitability, retention, and adherence to underwriting standards.

Participate in agency meetings, service calls, and occasional in‑person visits to strengthen relationships and support business development.

Maintain awareness of market trends, competitor activity, and regulatory changes impacting commercial lines.

Qualifications

Minimum 3 years of commercial underwriting experience, preferably with multiline small commercial products (BOP, package, auto, WC).

Working knowledge of NCCI and state bureau manuals, rules, and classifications.

Experience with loss‑sensitive rating programs preferred.

Professional designations such as CPCU, ARM, CIC, or similar are strongly preferred.

Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, with strong Excel skills required.

Excellent communication, analytical, critical‑thinking, and problem‑solving abilities.

Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, marketing, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
