Responsibilities
Copywriting and Content Development (40%)
Write clear, engaging marketing copy for a variety of audiences including prospective students, alumni, donors, faculty, staff, and external partners.
Develop messaging for marketing materials such as brochures, digital advertisements, email campaigns, landing pages, and social media content.
Translate complex academic and research topics into accessible content for general audiences.
Ensure written materials align with the University of Maine’s brand voice, messaging priorities, and editorial standards.
Collaborate with communications and marketing professionals across the university to support integrated campaigns and communications initiatives.
Graphic Design and Visual Content Creation (40%)
Design marketing and communications materials including digital graphics, social media assets, print collateral, and presentations.
Produce creative assets that align with University of Maine brand guidelines and visual standards.
Support creative development for campaigns and communications initiatives led by the Brand Studio team.
Prepare files for both digital and print production.
Web Editing and Digital Publishing (10%)
Edit and update web content using the university’s content management system.
Ensure content accuracy, accessibility, and alignment with university web and brand standards.
Assist with publishing campaign pages, feature stories, and marketing content on UMaine web platforms.
Feature Story Development (10%)
Research, interview, and write feature stories highlighting the people, research, and impact of the University of Maine.
Develop narrative content showcasing student experiences, faculty expertise, and university initiatives.
Collaborate with photographers, videographers, and editors to produce engaging storytelling content.
Support and guide feature story development led by communicators across the university.
Required qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, journalism, graphic design, or a related field.
One to three years of professional experience in marketing, communications, journalism, design, or a related field, or a combination of relevant education and experience.
Demonstrated writing and storytelling ability for marketing or communications purposes.
Experience creating visual content for digital and/or print communications.
Working knowledge of design tools such as Adobe Creative Cloud applications (e.g., InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) or similar software.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred qualifications
Experience working in higher education, nonprofit, or mission-driven organizations.
Experience writing editorial or feature stories.
Familiarity with web content management systems.
Knowledge of accessibility and digital content best practices.
Typical hiring range for this position is $48,000 to $54,000 commensurate with qualifications and experience.
