Summary

As the Patient Accounts Representative, the primary purpose of your job, under the supervision of the Patient Accounts Director, is the timely and accurate filing and follow‑up of third‑party claims. Does this position require Patient Care? No Essential Functions

Ensure accurate billing for all patient accounts to maximize reimbursement for the hospital. Work with insurance companies to verify coverage, follow up on account status, and identify and resolve any account issues. Proficiently use the hospital computer module and various insurance websites to verify insurance, inquire on claim status, update patient insurance, and enter comments on accounts to maintain a complete historical record of all activities. Resolve account issues in a timely manner while documenting correspondence with patients. Respond to patient billing inquiries from both patients and insurance companies in a timely fashion via all communication tools (phone, fax, email, etc.) until all questions/issues are resolved. Understand the billing cycle, insurance coverage, and benefits, and convey this information to patients. Refer patients to the corporate customer service department for residual collection and/or payment plans. Accurately perform all billing functions: credit refunds, un‑billing, adding insurance, etc. Inform the Patient Accounts Director of any backlogs, delays in billing or correspondence, and any billing issues that cannot be resolved. Work in collaboration and maintain a good working relationship with all entities (e.g., physicians' office, ancillary departments, insurance representatives, etc.) to ensure all activities regarding patient accounts are complete, accurate, and timely. Maintain patient confidentiality. Follow MGB and MVH billing credit collection policies and procedures. Meet all MVH and MGB billing metrics. Maintain a neat and orderly workstation. Education

High School Diploma or Equivalent required; Associate's Degree in a related field of study preferred; other certificate/diploma in medical billing and coding preferred. Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree? No Licenses and Credentials

Experience

2–3 years of previous billing experience in the health care industry in functions such as hospital or medical billing, claims processing, or similar industry experience, including PC/computer experience with working knowledge of all phases in billing procedures. 2–3 years required.
