Position Summary
Boston Ship Repair is seeking skilled Outside Machinists to perform repair, maintenance, and overhaul work on a wide range of shipboard machinery. This role offers the opportunity to work on high-profile vessels in a fast-paced, hands-on environment.
Key Responsibilities
Set up and operate machine shop equipment such as lathes, milling machines, drill presses, and grinders to fabricate and repair precision components.
Machine parts to tight tolerances using manual equipment.
Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and job specifications.
Inspect finished parts using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges.
Select proper tooling, materials, speeds, and feeds for machining operations.
Support mechanical work including installation, maintenance, and repair of pumps, motors, compressors, and related equipment when machining work is not required.
Assist with disassembly, inspection, and reassembly of mechanical systems and components.
Perform alignments and basic troubleshooting of mechanical equipment.
Maintain a safe work environment in both machine shop and field settings.

Qualifications
- 35 years of marine, industrial, or shipyard mechanic experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of hydraulic systems and torque wrench applications.
- Skilled with hand tools, measuring instruments, and alignment equipment.
- Ability to work from technical drawings and follow detailed instructions.
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs, work in confined spaces, and follow safety protocols.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Shipboard and shipyard conditions, including heat, cold, humidity, noise, and moving machinery.
- Requires standing, climbing, kneeling, and lifting up to 50 lbs daily.
