Associate Director of Development, Major Gifts (Bay Area)
Reporting to the Director of Major Gifts, the Associate Director will manage regional fundraising efforts in the Bay Area for Stanford Law School, identifying, cultivating, and soliciting donors capable of giving $250,000 or more.
JOB PURPOSE In coordination with the Director of Major Gifts, plan and implement fundraising strategies for a portfolio of donors, including prospect identification, solicitation, proposal development, and coordination of internal support activities. Work with staff, donors, volunteers, faculty, and university staff to maintain relationships and collaborate on regional donor events.
CORE DUTIES
Develop solicitation goals, objectives, and strategies for specific donor populations and geographic regions.
Manage an active portfolio, track assignments and progress, and cultivate, solicit, and steward donor support in assigned regions (expect 50% travel, 12‑15 visits/month).
Identify new prospective donors and volunteers, provide stewardship, and coordinate volunteer fundraising efforts, including major gift cultivation events.
Stay informed on current university and law school initiatives and activities; serve as an expert partner between faculty‑led programs and the Office of External Relations.
Staff the Dean and faculty for visits with potential funders, preparing briefings, cultivation strategies, and follow‑up.
Build relationships leading to gifts of $250,000 or more and enhance ongoing relationships with alumni and friends through personal visits and phone calls.
Prioritize prospects, prepare background information, assign volunteers, and follow up to ensure completion of solicitations.
Work closely with development colleagues to align program goals with overall giving goals of the university.
Other duties may be assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Education & Experience
– Bachelor’s degree and five years of relevant experience (or equivalent combination).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Proven ability in prospect identification, relationship building, and solicitation.
Experience mentoring and working with volunteers, faculty, and staff.
Superior written and oral communication skills, meticulous attention to detail, and ability to articulate a compelling case.
Ability to translate complex concepts into compelling development proposals.
WORKING CONDITIONS
May require flexible hours, including nights and weekends.
Regular travel within the Bay Area.

Demonstrate interpersonal skills with Stanford colleagues and external organizations.

PAY RANGE $142,600 to $163,419 per annum (Hybrid)
