Sr. Interior Designer - Full time - Detroit

General Summary We are seeking a talented and motivated Interior Design leader with a strong background in healthcare design to join our dynamic team. This role is ideal for a designer who thrives in collaborative environments, has a deep understanding of healthcare settings, and is passionate about creating spaces that promote wellness, safety, and functionality. As a senior designer, you will contribute to all phases of design from concept development through construction documentation, with a focus on clinical and healthcare-related projects such as hospitals, outpatient centers, medical offices, and specialty care facilities.

Principle Duties And Responsibilities

Collaborate with project teams to develop interior design concepts that support healthcare‑specific goals, user needs, and regulatory requirements.

Produce detailed design drawings, finish boards, presentations, and construction documentation using Revit, AutoCAD, and other design software.

Select materials, finishes, FF&E, and lighting appropriate for healthcare settings, balancing aesthetics, durability, and infection control.

Coordinate with architects, consultants, project managers and clients to ensure design intent is maintained throughout all phases and to completion.

Stay current with healthcare design trends, evidence‑based design principles, and building codes/regulations specific to healthcare (e.g., FGI, ADA, Joint Commission).

Stay current on trends in healthcare design, sustainability, and innovations in patient‑centered environments.

Work with Healing Arts for selection/review of artwork for project specific needs.

Work alongside Infectious Disease, EVS and plant operations teams to help uphold the Henry Ford Health (HFH) aesthetics and standards are maintained.

Contacts furniture vendors and sales reps to evaluate furniture quality, cost, and availability, delivery schedules and other related factors. Arrange on site updates/presentations as required.

Helps in coordination of an inventory system of all furnishings/furniture required to maintain HF sites.

Inspects existing inventory for safety and code compliance.

Develops budgets for unit approval and project estimates.

Helps manage, inventory, recommend and implement space standards for overall organizational use.

Support construction administration by reviewing submittals, attending site visits, and resolving field issues.

Education/Experience Required

Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design, Architecture or related field from a CIDA accredited program.

10+ years of professional experience, with at least 2+ years focused on healthcare design projects.

Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, and Microsoft Office; knowledge of Enscape or other rendering tools a plus.

Strong knowledge of healthcare codes, standards, and best practices.

Excellent communication, presentation, and organizational skills.

Self‑directed and motivated.

Effective collaborator; accountable for self and others.

Certifications/Licensures Required

NCIDQ certification preferred or in progress; LEED AP, EDAC certification is a plus.

Must meet or exceed core customer service responsibilities, standards and behaviors as outlined in the Henry Ford Health Customer Service Policy

Must practice the customer skills as provided through on‑going training and in‑services.

Physical Demands/Working Conditions

Normal office environment with minimal exposure to noise, dust, or extreme temperatures.

Travel necessary to meetings, business locations, medical centers, schools, community partner sites, and/or health fairs. This may include working outdoors where temperatures are not controlled.
