Overview HII’s Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS) is the largest industrial employer in Virginia and the sole designer, builder and refueler of U.S. Navy nuclear aircraft carriers and one of two providers of U.S. Navy nuclear submarines.
The Role Photographer that is self‑motivated, driven, creative and committed to producing high‑quality content for Newport News Shipbuilding.
Responsibilities
Use a variety of cameras and lenses to capture content of company products, facilities, employees and guests for internal and public communication channels.
Edit, deliver, and archive imagery with proper file size, type and archival standards.
Photograph studio headshots with professional studio lighting equipment; capture environmental portraits with off‑camera lighting.
Print photographs on large‑format printers as required.
Photograph products, people, buildings, machinery, equipment, parts and other subjects for promotion, marketing, publicity, manufacturing, engineering or administrative needs.
Arrange lighting and equipment, set camera angles and exposure, and develop images according to specifications.
Work in an industrial shipyard environment involving extensive site surveys, logistics planning, physical work, lifting and climbing; document work on ships, at sea and from elevated locations.
Participate in the company’s emergency response organization and support special events, including work outside first‑shift hours and on weekends.
Requirements
Associate’s Degree and 1 year of relevant experience.
Alternatively, High School/GED and 2 years of related Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, or Military experience; or 4 years of non‑related experience in the same fields.
Nice to Have
Proficient technical camera skills, manual mode on professional DSLR cameras.
Extensive experience shooting indoor and outdoor environments with on‑camera and off‑camera lighting.
Portrait skills including lighting setup and coaching individuals through portrait sessions.
Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite – Lightroom and Photoshop.
FAA‑Certified Drone Pilot license.
Experience in video creation, editing and production.
Experience with other Adobe Creative Suite programs such as InDesign, Premiere, etc.
Printing skills for large‑format printers.
