Mechanical Estimator HVAC Focus
The Mechanical Estimator plays a key role in the preconstruction process by developing accurate construction cost budgets and detailed estimates with a specific focus on HVAC systems. This position collaborates closely with the Preconstruction team to conceptualize and interpret project scopes from incomplete or schematic documents, providing informed cost input throughout the design phase for commercial and industrial construction projects. Responsibilities
Lead conceptual mechanical estimating efforts for HVAC-related scopes during the preconstruction phase. Develop accurate construction cost budgets and detailed cost estimates for mechanical and HVAC systems in commercial and industrial projects. Review, interpret, and analyze commercial blueprints, drawings, and schematic documents to determine project scope and quantities. Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for HVAC, piping, and related mechanical systems. Use estimating software to prepare, organize, and update estimates, cost breakdowns, and supporting documentation. Collaborate with the Preconstruction team to provide cost input and value insights throughout the design process. Evaluate subcontractor proposals, clarify scope, and incorporate subcontractor pricing into overall project estimates. Prepare and adjust estimates and pricing for change orders and scope changes as projects evolve. Support budgeting and pricing exercises for commercial, industrial, and MEP-related construction projects. Maintain organized records of estimates, assumptions, and supporting documents for future reference and project handoff. Essential Skills
Proven experience in mechanical estimating with a focus on HVAC systems. Strong proficiency in reading and interpreting commercial blueprints and construction documents. Demonstrated ability to perform accurate quantity takeoffs for mechanical and HVAC scopes. Hands-on experience using construction estimating software. Knowledge of commercial construction practices, particularly related to mechanical, piping, and MEP systems. Ability to develop detailed cost estimates, budgets, and pricing for commercial and industrial projects. Strong analytical and numerical skills with attention to detail in cost calculations and takeoffs. Effective communication and collaboration skills to work closely with Preconstruction and project teams. Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience working with subcontractors on pricing, scope clarification, and proposal evaluation. Background in industrial construction and industrial mechanical systems. Familiarity with managing and pricing change orders. Understanding of MEP coordination within commercial and industrial projects. Ability to conceptualize scope and costs from incomplete or schematic design documents. Strong organizational skills to manage multiple estimates and deadlines concurrently. Work Environment
This is an in-office role based in West Michigan, working on commercial, industrial, and MEP-related construction projects. The position requires working on-site in the office five days per week, with flexible hours to support work-life balance. You will work in a collaborative preconstruction environment, using estimating software and digital blueprints to prepare detailed cost estimates and budgets for mechanical and HVAC scopes. The setting supports close coordination with preconstruction and project teams in a professional office environment. Job Type & Location

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $48.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
