POSITION SUMMARY:

The Executive Director of Schools serves as the primary supervisor, coach, and evaluator of elementary or secondary school principals, strengthening instructional leadership and ensuring consistent expectations across schools. This role advances equity, supports effective school improvement, and leads the implementation of Blueprint for Maryland's Future requirements through data-informed coaching and systemwide instructional coherence. As a key system-level leader, the Executive Director reduces operational barriers for principals, develops leadership capacity, and collaborates across departments to ensure principals are able to focus on high-quality teaching, learning, and student success.

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

At the time of application, the candidate must hold or be eligible for: Must hold Administrator II or Supervisor of Instruction, Assistant Principal, Principal certification/license at the time of application. Master's Degree required in leadership, system improvement, and/or curriculum and instruction. Three (3) years of successful teaching experience required. Three (3) years of successful school principal experience required. Experience with multiple schools and/or levels preferred. KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS

Demonstrated ability as a highly effective school principal with understanding in all aspects of the Professional Standards for Educational Leaders (PSEL). Demonstrated success in supporting the achievement of students including historically marginalized students on local, state, and national assessments. Experience in successful school improvement programming including data analysis, goal setting, strategy implementation, and evaluation with substantial results. Experience in coaching, support, and evaluation of school personnel. Demonstrates knowledge of equity principles and culturally responsive pedagogy that addresses inequities of historically marginalized students. Understanding and ability to maintain rapport with people from all identities, cultures, and backgrounds. Demonstrated ability to relate effectively to students, teachers, staff, central office personnel, parents, and community members. Knowledge of sound instructional practice that increases the student experience such as culturally responsive instruction, The Science of Learning, Universal Design for Learning, Inclusive Practices when measured in a variety of different ways. Demonstrated ability to provide professional learning that supports the classroom experience and that meets the needs of adult learners.? Demonstrated collaborative leadership skills with the ability to work as a team member. Demonstrated skills in written and oral communication. Demonstrated ability to motivate others to sustain and meet program/system goals and objectives. Demonstrated ability to multi-task and follow-through to effectively meet deadlines. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Calvert County Public Schools may find appropriate and acceptable. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS, RESPONSIBILITIES, AND DUTIES

:

Serves as the primary supervisor and evaluator of assigned elementary and/or secondary principals. Coaches, mentors, and develops principals through structured feedback cycles focused on instructional leadership and school improvement. Observes and provides feedback aligned to PSEL standards. Evaluates school principals and supports the evaluation of assistant principals in alignment with district and state standards. Uses evaluation as a developmental tool to drive continuous growth and leadership capacity-building. Analyzes school and system data to identify trends, strengths, and areas of need. Supports principals in developing, implementing, and monitoring school improvement plans. Ensures instructional coherence and consistent expectations across schools. Improves instructional leadership in teaching, assessment, and data-informed decision-making. Supports principals in prioritizing instructional leadership by identifying and addressing systemic operational barriers. Leads and monitors school-level implementation of Blueprint for Maryland's Future requirements, including CCR readiness, intervention systems, and equity-driven outcomes. Supports principals in aligning staffing, scheduling, instructional practices, and improvement planning to Blueprint expectations. Uses Blueprint benchmarks and accountability measures to inform coaching and performance feedback. Collaborates with Teaching and Learning, Special Education, Student Services, Equity, and Operations to align supports and messaging to schools. Reduces fragmentation by coordinating cross-departmental responses to school needs. Jointly plans and facilitates principal meetings and leadership learning experiences. Supports principals in strengthening communication, decision-making, and organizational leadership skills. Plans, coordinates, and executes Grow Your Own and aspiring administrator programs. Develops and supports New Administrator Training. Supports and facilitates assistant principals and teacher leaders' development as future principals through targeted coaching and evaluation collaboration. Contributes to districtwide leadership succession planning in partnership with Human Resources and executive leadership. Supports principals in addressing complex parent, staff, and community concerns. Assists with high-impact or sensitive school-level issues requiring district coordination. Represents the district in education-related meetings as assigned. Supports principals in operational management foundational to student learning. Assists with budget preparation and grant development as needed. Assists Human Resources with interviewing and selection of school administrators. Prepares reports, presentations, and updates for the Board of Education, MSDE, and other required audiences. Remains current on instructional research, leadership best practices, and state initiatives. OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS, RESPONSIBILITIES, AND DUTIES

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Twelve (12) month position, working 245 days per year. Salary is determined by the Superintendent of Schools and the Board of Education, with an expected range of $144,354 - $194,140, commensurate with qualifications and experience. All employees are encouraged to have automatic payroll deposits.

Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the policy on evaluation as established by the Calvert County Public Schools.
