Director of Facilities (or Vice President of Facilities) - Hawaii (Multi-Unit Luxury Resort Complex)

We are seeking an experienced and highly qualified Director or Vice President of Facilities to lead all engineering, maintenance, and facilities operations for a large-scale luxury hotel and resort complex in Hawaii. This executive‑level role requires a hands‑on, strategic leader with a proven track record managing complex resort infrastructure in high‑end hospitality environments.

The successful candidate will ensure the highest standards of operational excellence, asset preservation, safety, and guest satisfaction across a multi‑unit property. This role demands deep technical expertise, strong leadership capabilities, and a thorough understanding of the unique environmental and operational challenges associated with tropical, ocean‑front resort destinations.

This position operates within a large, luxury resort setting in a tropical climate. The role requires regular on‑site presence, including walking extensive property grounds, responding to emergencies, and overseeing operations in indoor and outdoor environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide executive leadership and direction for all facilities, engineering, and maintenance operations.
  • Develop and execute long‑term capital plans, asset management strategies, and preventative maintenance programs.
  • Partner with executive leadership to align facilities operations with overall business goals and guest experience standards.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high‑performing, multi‑disciplinary facilities team.

Operations & Maintenance

  • Oversee day‑to‑day engineering and maintenance functions across all resort facilities, including guest rooms, public spaces, back‑of‑house areas, and recreational amenities.
  • Ensure optimal performance of all building systems including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, water treatment, and life safety systems.
  • Implement and maintain rigorous preventative and predictive maintenance programs.
  • Manage vendor relationships, service contracts, and procurement processes.

Asset Protection & Capital Projects

  • Protect and enhance the value of all physical assets through proactive maintenance and capital improvement initiatives.
  • Plan, budget, and oversee major renovation and construction projects.
  • Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to luxury brand standards.

Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure full compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations, including OSHA and environmental standards.
  • Maintain robust safety programs and emergency response protocols.
  • Lead risk management initiatives and ensure preparedness for natural events (e.g., hurricanes, flooding, salt‑air corrosion).

Guest Experience Excellence

  • Maintain facilities to the highest luxury standards, ensuring seamless guest comfort and satisfaction.
  • Collaborate with Rooms, Food & Beverage, and Spa leadership to support exceptional service delivery.
  • Rapidly respond to and resolve facility‑related guest concerns.

Sustainability & Environmental Stewardship

  • Drive sustainability initiatives including energy efficiency, water conservation, and waste reduction.
  • Ensure environmentally responsible practices aligned with Hawaiian regulations and cultural stewardship.

Qualifications

  • Significant leadership experience as a Director or Vice President of Facilities, Engineering, or similar role within a large luxury hotel or resort environment.
  • Direct experience working in Hawaii resorts (mandatory).
  • Proven expertise managing large, multi‑unit resort properties with complex infrastructure.
  • Strong technical knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and building systems.
  • Demonstrated success leading large teams and managing cross‑functional operations.
  • Experience with capital planning, budgeting, and project management.
  • Degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, or a related technical field.
  • Professional certifications (e.g., PE, CFM, CPM, or equivalent).
  • Experience with sustainability programs and energy management systems.
  • Strategic and operational leadership.
  • Technical expertise and problem‑solving.
  • Financial acumen and budget management.
  • Crisis management and decision‑making.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Cultural awareness and sensitivity to Hawaiian values and environment.
