Summary
The Director of Sales is responsible for developing long‑term sales strategies and annual sales plans. The role establishes relationships with a strong customer focus and collaborates with Costco buying management in each region, providing valuable insights about consumer profiles and trends. The Director of Sales will establish annual and monthly sales objectives in coordination with the CDS business plan, work directly with the Costco GMM to set regional event volume strategies, identify any discrepancies in expected volume, and influence change to keep volume on track. The position will develop new programs and services for Costco and its vendors, sell these services, and oversee their successful implementation.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the Vice President, Sales to develop a 3‑5 year sales strategy and an annual sales plan; provide quarterly updates to senior leadership and revise the plan for each region.
- Establish both annual and monthly sales objectives in coordination with the CDS business plan for regional sales offices.
- Create, conduct, and present CDS marketing services to existing and prospective clients.
- Partner with the CPG Relationship Lead to build relationships with vendors, brokers, and buyers by providing product sampling insights and advice through the development of individualized event programs; sustain external and internal customer contacts to ensure high-level customer satisfaction; and oversee the development of on‑go and on‑request reports to internal and external customers.
- Develop sales metrics used to assess regional sales teams’ performance.
- Manage and direct personnel, including selection, work allocation, training, development, and problem resolution; evaluate performance, make recommendations for personnel actions, and motivate, coach, inspire, and mentor employees to achieve peak productivity and performance.
- Act as a creative force to develop new programs and services for Costco and its vendors, selling these services and ensuring their successful implementation.
- Maintain strong sales/operations relationships and effective communications; work with the Director of Field Operations to resolve issues and drive programs.
- Train, develop, coach, and counsel direct reports in all aspects of the in‑house demonstration program, including the sales and scheduling process, producing accurate and timely demo schedules, creating comprehensive demo product information sheets, and adhering to CDS policies, procedures, and financial guidelines.
- Provide excellent customer service to Costco in the form of upcoming demo volume projections and analysis of demos performed for the most recent period.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Direct Reports: Hire, retain, train, coach, guide, direct, and develop direct reports using company‑wide processes, tools, and resources.
- Indirect Reports: Delegate work to others and provide guidance, direction, and mentoring to indirect reports.
Travel and/or Driving Requirements
- Travel and driving are essential duties of this position.
- Travel up to 20 % of the time.
Minimum Qualifications
Education Level (Required): Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.
Education Level (Preferred): Master’s Degree or equivalent experience.
Field of Study / Area of Experience
- 8+ years of progressive experience in a customer‑service, sales, or marketing field.
- 5 years of experience managing people in a related field.
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

Environmental & Physical Requirements
- Office/Sedentary Requirements: Incumbent must be able to perform the essential functions of the job, primarily in an office environment. This includes sitting for extended periods (>66 % of the day), hearing telephone communications, entering data on a computer, and lifting up to 10 kg.
