Overview
Our client, a growing energy infrastructure developer, is seeking a Director or Senior Director of Development to lead natural gas‑based power and infrastructure development across the Eastern United States.
This high‑impact, first‑in‑region hire will be responsible for building and leading the East Coast development platform, with full ownership of projects from origination through financing close and handoff to construction, and the opportunity to build a team as the platform grows.
The role is ideal for a senior development professional with deep natural gas experience, strong East Coast market relationships, and a track record of delivering complex projects through Final Notice to Proceed (FNTP).
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the full lifecycle development of large‑scale natural gas power and related infrastructure projects, including early‑stage origination through financing and construction handoff
- Serve as the senior development lead for the East Coast region
- Identify, originate, and advance new project opportunities and greenfield sites
- Manage land acquisition, permitting, entitlements, interconnection, and utility coordination
- Lead negotiations for key commercial and development agreements
- Build and maintain strong relationships with landowners, utilities, regulators, municipalities, and community stakeholders
- Coordinate with internal and external partners to advance projects to FNTP
- Oversee project budgets, schedules, and development forecasts
- Play a role in early business development and market strategy for the region
- Support future team growth and regional expansion
Required Qualifications
Natural gas development experience is essential. Candidates must have direct experience in one or more of the following:
- Natural gas marketing and pipeline development
- Natural gas power plant development
Additional requirements:
- Successfully completed at least three (3) projects from origination through Final Notice to Proceed (FNTP)
- 4+ years of direct project development experience
- 10+ years of overall professional experience in energy or infrastructure
- Demonstrated tenure, including 3+ years at least one company within the last three roles
- Strong knowledge of permitting, land acquisition, utilities, and power markets
- Excellent communication and stakeholder‑management skills
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience developing gas‑powered data centers or data‑center‑adjacent infrastructure
- Established relationships within East Coast power markets, utilities, or regulatory agencies
- Familiarity with interconnection processes and regional power markets
Location & Travel
- Candidates must be based in the Eastern U.S. or have strong personal/professional ties to the East Coast and be willing to relocate
- Up to 25% travel, primarily within the Eastern U.S.
Compensation
- $190,000 - $250,000 base salary, with flexibility for top‑tier talent
- Target compensation may reach $200,000+ base depending on experience and level
- Additional incentives available based on role scope and performance
