Director of Principal Leadership
SUMMARY: The Director of Principal Leadership provides direct oversight, leadership and accountability to buildings to ensure effective implementation of district academic goals and sustained improvements in student achievement. This role is responsible for monitoring instructional quality, evaluating the effectiveness of school-based leadership and leading continuous improvement efforts across all K–12 schools. The position exercises supervisory authority over principals and plays a critical role in aligning instructional practices, leadership behaviors and school outcomes with district expectations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Demonstrates sound judgment and emotional stability.
- Maintains a positive attitude and works well with others.
- Ensures the safety of students.
- Interacts with staff, students and the community in a positive and respectful manner.
- Leads improvement planning through regular school visits, instructional walkthroughs and leadership reviews.
- Directly supervises, evaluates and supports accountability of instructional leadership, staff evaluation practices, implementation of district initiatives and student achievement outcomes.
- Develops clear expectations for leadership related to instructional practices, data use and academic results.
- Identifies leadership strengths and growth areas and facilitates targeted development opportunities.
- Ensures alignment between district academic priorities, building-level practices and professional learning.
- Plans and implements professional development for district leaders, including leading the Assistant Principal Academy.
- Supports succession planning and leadership capacity-building across the district.
- Attends at least one community building event per month.
- Establishes partnerships and regular communication with all union presidents.
- Leads attendance initiatives by maintaining a clear understanding of attendance laws and policies and ensuring building implementation of best practices.
- Supports building clinic operations by supporting nurses and clinic/office assistants with policy development and implementation, as well as professional learning.
- Aligns the work of secretaries across the district, including planning targeted professional development opportunities.
- Serves as the first point of contact for parent concerns regarding school-related issues, including athletics.
- Supports buildings in navigating sensitive issues such as bullying/harassment, discipline etc.
- Assumes responsibility for all aspects of Federal Programming.
- Leads the district Teacher Evaluation Committee.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Directly supervises and evaluates all building principals.
- May supervise additional academic or school improvement staff as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership.
- At least five years of experience as a building principal preferred.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
- State of Ohio Principal License.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- 260-day contract/year.
- Master’s degree preferred.
- Citizenship, residency or work visa required.
