Position Title: Associate Director, Operational Excellence
Position Summary
The Associate Director, Operational Excellence will drive the adoption and execution of the BMS operating system vision and strategy in line with business expectations. The role collaborates with sites, functions, and the larger Operational Excellence (OpEx) network to develop and implement strategies that foster a continuous improvement culture, advance operational excellence principles, and enhance performance across GPS sites and functions.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and support Diagnostics and Focused Improvement initiatives.
- Coach sites and site leaders in developing and executing COMPASS Roadmaps that leverage the BMS operating system.
- Apply Continuous Improvement and Lean tools—such as Kaizen, DMAIC, PDCA—to consistently improve performance, reduce waste, and drive productivity.
- Facilitate Monthly Bowling Card reviews.
- Support and influence changes to operations and processes, promoting a data‑driven decision‑making culture.
- Communicate complex quantitative analysis to stakeholders in a clear, concise, actionable manner.
- Establish and maintain SMART KPIs to ensure objectives in safety, quality, service, cost, and efficiency are met.
- Define, optimize, and maintain end‑to‑end business processes.
- Lead workshops and projects using Lean Six Sigma methodologies.
- Partner with leadership to identify high‑impact opportunities and execute process improvements.
- Identify and eliminate process inefficiencies, bottlenecks, and waste to enhance productivity and reduce costs.
- Conduct root‑cause problem solving.
- Optimize labor, facility, and space utilization.
- Identify meaningful metrics and KPIs.
- Provide Continuous Improvement education, training, project intake, and prioritization.
- Build organizational capability through training and coaching.
- Foster relationships across the matrix to support process improvement and measurement implementation.
- Ensure compliance with resource management policies.
- Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies related to the Compass program.
- Implement innovative solutions to drive process improvements and enhance business performance.
- Travel up to 50%.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Management, Project Management, or related field (MBA or advanced degree preferred).
- Minimum 5 years of experience in operations, project management, or related field.
- Minimum 2 years in OpEx with heavy emphasis on focused improvements.
- Financial acumen to develop business cases.
- Proven track record of managing complex projects and driving operational excellence.
- Strong leadership and team‑management skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire others.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Proficiency in project‑management tools and methodologies (Agile, Scrum, PMP).
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to make data‑driven decisions.
- Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities.
- Experience in the pharmaceutical industry or similar.
- Lean Six Sigma Black Belt (Master Black Belt preferred).
- Strong leadership capability to balance speed, quality, and risk with patient focus.
Compensation
Starting compensation ranges (full‑time FTE, before incentives):
- Devens – MA: $179,910 – $218,010
- Madison – Giralda – NJ: $168,140 – $203,744
- New Brunswick – NJ: $168,140 – $203,744
- Princeton – NJ: $168,140 – $203,744
