Overview
The National Immigrant Justice Center (NIJC) defends the rights and dignity of immigrants, asylum seekers, and refugees and advocates for justice in a challenging system. NIJC represents thousands of people each year in applications for legal status and in defending rights to safety, family unity, and due process. The Executive Director will lead NIJC with a commitment to legal excellence and mission-driven advocacy.

Opportunity
NIJC seeks an Executive Director who can honor the organization’s legal legacy while guiding it toward greater organizational maturity and national influence. The leader will bring significant legal training and experience, preferably in immigration. Litigation expertise is a plus, though not required, if the candidate can oversee complex legal work and lead a sophisticated law practice. The Executive Director will be a compelling public advocate who can elevate NIJC’s voice with donors, policymakers, and partners, while working alongside the Board and staff to set strategy and drive fundraising.
Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership and work with the Board and staff to set the organization’s direction and goals.
- Oversee complex legal work and a sophisticated law practice with attention to quality and impact.
- Act as a public advocate to elevate NIJC’s voice with donors, policymakers, and partners.
- Guide fundraising efforts to support programmatic and organizational growth.
Qualifications
- Significant legal training and experience, preferably in immigration law.
- Experience leading a professional team and managing complex operations.
- Strong public advocacy skills and ability to engage with diverse stakeholders.
Details
The salary range for this position is between $225,000 and $265,000 annually and will be commensurate with experience. The comprehensive benefits package includes health insurance and retirement plans. NIJC observes 12 paid holidays each year and offers Paid Time Off as well as Sick Leave.
