About the Role
The company is scaling and seeking a driven business development leader to own census growth across its residential treatment centers. Your primary focus is keeping beds full by developing and maintaining a strong referral pipeline, building relationships with treatment providers, and positioning the organization as a trusted partner in the recovery community.
This is a results-oriented role. You'll be measured on admissions, occupancy rates, and the strength of the referral network you build.
Responsibilities
- Drive census growth and maintain high occupancy (90%+) across all facilities
- Build and manage a referral pipeline from detox centers, hospitals, outpatient programs (IOP/PHP), therapists, interventionists, and case managers
- Develop and nurture relationships with clinical partners who align with the company's mission and care standards
- Track referral sources, admission data, and conversion rates to inform strategy
- Represent the organization at industry events, networking groups, and community outreach opportunities
- Collaborate with operations and clinical teams to ensure a seamless admissions experience
- Identify market opportunities for expansion into new referral channels and geographic areas
- Provide regular reporting on census performance, pipeline health, and growth initiatives
Qualifications
- Experience in business development, admissions, or referral relations within behavioral health, substance abuse treatment, or a related healthcare field Proven ability to build relationships and convert them into consistent referral volume
- Self-starter mentality — you don't wait to be told what to do
- Comfort with data: you track your numbers and use them to make decisions
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Passion for the recovery mission and understanding of the treatment continuum (detox → RTC → sober living → outpatient → independent living)
Preferred Qualifications
- A strong existing network in the Los Angeles recovery community
- Prior experience scaling census at a multi-site behavioral health organization
- Familiarity with insurance verification, admissions workflows, and CRM tools
