Director of Foundations Finance
Location: Augusta University
Job Summary
Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Foundations & CFO for Foundations & Philanthropy & Alumni Engagement, the Director of Foundations Finance provides leadership, management, and oversight to the Foundations Finance & Accounting staff. The role ensures appropriate financial and operational controls, reporting procedures, and systems to support growth, maintain excellence, and ensure financial reliability and operating efficiency for the Augusta University Foundation and related units.
Responsibilities
- Oversee Finance & Accounting staff to achieve departmental goals and objectives.
- Maintain accounting systems, account and fund balances, records, and financial functionality.
- Ensure internal controls and financial procedures are appropriate.
- Recommend policies and procedures for the Foundations.
- Ensure timely, accurate financial and management reporting for corporate, foundation, federal, and state funders and the Foundation boards; prepare and communicate monthly and annual financial statements.
- Serve as strategic partner to the AVP, Foundations & CFO, coordinating development and monitoring of strategies, plans, and budgets.
- Oversee cash flow planning and ensure availability of funds; manage cash, investment, and asset balances; assist in financing strategies and banking relationships.
- Stay up-to-date on nonprofit audit best practices and state and federal regulations; coordinate audits and filing of tax returns; ensure legal and regulatory compliance.
- Develop financial business plans, forecasts, and predictive models to provide insight into operations and business plans.
- Coordinate short, medium, and long‑term financial plans and projections; represent the Foundations to financial partners and stakeholders.
- Assist in the development of investment policies and performance monitoring.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related discipline; minimum of five years accounting experience in a higher education or public employer setting.
- Supervisor experience required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree.
- CPA license.
- Ten years of financial management and accounting experience in a non‑profit and philanthropic setting.
- Experience working in or with a non‑profit foundation affiliated with a public college or university.
- Demonstrated career progression with proven ability to select, train, supervise, and motivate a professional team.
- Experience with Blackbaud Financial Edge and/or Blackbaud Raiser's Edge.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Dynamic, self‑motivated, well‑rounded individual with strong financial accounting, reporting, and management background.
- Experience in non‑profit financial accounting and operational aspects of non‑profit organizations.
- Leadership ability and experience providing guidance to finance staff in complex non‑profit environments with multiple funding sources and affiliate structure.
Shift/Salary/Benefits
Shift: Days, Monday–Friday (outside normal business hours may be required for exempt level).
Pay band: B17 – $109,500 to $125,000 annually, commensurate with qualifications.
Benefits may include health, dental, life insurance; Teachers Retirement System or optional retirement plan; vacation, sick leave, and 13 paid holidays.
Full‑time employees who have been employed for more than 6 months may be eligible for the Tuition Assistance Program.
