About the Role
This is a senior, onsite leadership role based in Chicago, IL, responsible for building, leading, and scaling the customs brokerage (CHB) function.
You will act as the designated Licensed Customs Broker for the business, taking ownership of compliance, operational oversight, and long-term strategy. The role combines hands‑on brokerage expertise with leadership responsibility, making it ideal for someone looking to shape and grow a customs function from a leadership position.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and develop the customs brokerage function, establishing structure, processes, and best practices.
- Act as the company’s Licensed Customs Broker and ensure full compliance with CBP regulations.
- Oversee import entry processes, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and timeliness.
- Classify goods using HTS and ensure correct duty application.
- Review and audit customs documentation to maintain high compliance standards.
- Serve as the escalation point for complex customs and regulatory matters.
- Liaise directly with CBP and relevant agencies when required.
- Provide guidance and training to internal teams on customs procedures and regulatory updates.
Candidate Requirements
- Active Licensed Customs Broker (LCB) certification (required).
- Strong experience within customs brokerage and import operations.
- Proven ability to lead, build, or scale a customs brokerage function.
- In‑depth knowledge of U.S. Customs regulations and trade compliance.
- Background within freight forwarding or logistics environments.
- Strong leadership, problem‑solving, and decision‑making capability.
- High attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
