Portland Public Schools is seeking a dynamic, organized, and student-focused individual to serve as the Extracurricular Director. This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated professional who is passionate about enriching the student experience through high-quality extracurricular programs, student organizations, and interscholastic athletics.

The ideal candidate will bring creativity, strong organizational skills, and a commitment to fostering a positive, inclusive, and student-centered school culture through both activities and athletics.

Eligible candidates must meet the following qualifications:
- Michigan Administrative Certification (preferred)
- Experience working with students in a school or youth-centered environment
- Strong organizational, communication, and event-planning skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- Minimum of five years of successful teaching, coaching, and/or administrative experience
- Strong understanding of leadership, school operations, and athletic and activities program management
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
The desired candidate would possess the following experiences and dispositions:
- Strong systems-thinking and organizational skills to coordinate multiple programs, events, and both athletic and activities seasons
- Proven ability to plan, implement, and evaluate extracurricular and athletic programs
- Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships with students, staff, families, and community partners
- Knowledge of Michigan School Associations rules, regulations, and compliance expectations
- Creativity and initiative in developing new student engagement opportunities
- Ability to promote a positive, inclusive, and student-centered culture
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced environment
- Commitment to continuous improvement and student engagement
Essential duties and responsibilities of the position:
- Coordinate and oversee all extracurricular activities, athletics, clubs, and student organizations
- Provide leadership and supervision of the district’s interscholastic athletic programs
- Ensure full compliance with all MHSAA rules, eligibility requirements, and reporting expectations
- Collaborate with coaches, advisors, administration, and student leaders to enhance school culture and climate
- Promote student involvement and ensure equitable access to extracurricular and athletic opportunities
- Develop and maintain activity and athletic schedules, calendars, and event logistics
- Coordinate transportation, facilities use, officials, and game/event management for activities and athletic events
- Ensure compliance with district policies, safety procedures, and applicable regulations for all events and activities
- Support hiring, supervision, and evaluation of coaches and activity advisors in collaboration with administration
- Coordinate communication related to extracurricular and athletic programming with students, staff, families, and the community
- Assist in managing budgets related to extracurricular programs and athletics
- Build and maintain partnerships with community organizations to expand student opportunities
- Support district initiatives that enhance student experience beyond the classroom
- Attend events outside of regular school hours, including evenings and weekends, as required
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent and/or the Board of Education
Terms of Employment
Contract: 215-day administrative contract (non-tenure, two-year term)
Salary: Commensurate with experience, with full benefits as per the employment agreement.
