As Managing Director, you'll direct the assignment of editorial content, lead a team of journalists, and develop, train, and mentor teams. You will make data‑informed decisions about audience engagement and oversee the Managing Editor, providing newsroom‑wide mentorship.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, develop, and train editorial teams to attract and retain talent.
  • Make editorial decisions that promote quality journalism and engage audiences.
  • Implement data‑driven strategies that resonate with viewers.
  • Collaborate with in‑house product and platform teams to expand reach.
  • Mentor and guide the Managing Editor and newsroom staff.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience: 8+ years of newsroom management in a fast‑paced digital publishing environment, with at least 5+ years of management experience.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism, management, or a related field.
  • Technical Skills: Deep understanding of the evolving digital media landscape.
  • Skills: Ability to create visual journalism and social media strategies; collaborative work with product teams.
  • Abilities: Support writers and editors in fast‑moving news cycles and develop ideas that expand audiences.
  • Travel: Primarily a climate‑controlled environment; occasional field duties.
  • Schedule: Flexible to work various shifts, longer shifts, weekends, holidays, and respond to breaking news or severe weather.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree.

Compensation and Benefits

The base pay for this position is between $135,300.00 and $240,100.00, with additional incentive‑based compensation such as bonuses eligible based on performance and location.
