The college’s research portfolio spans agriculture, life sciences, natural resources and the environment, families and youth, and the vitality of Idaho’s communities. CALS research is carried out at the Moscow campus, 10 Research and Extension Centers (RECs) and four affiliate centers with two sites in collaboration with USDA - ARS across Idaho. The Director works closely with CALS unit leads, REC and affiliate center superintendents, and USDA - ARS administrators to ensure that research activities are implemented successfully. The Director also works closely with the Vice President for Research to strengthen university-wide research initiatives and advance interdisciplinary programs.

Strategic research leadership and vision (30%) focuses on setting priorities, evaluating performance, and guiding the direction of CALS research to ensure alignment with institutional goals and responsiveness to emerging statewide and national needs, with an emphasis on interdisciplinary and innovative programs.

Administration of the Idaho Agricultural Experiment Station (30%) encompasses executive oversight of research operations, facilities, personnel, budgets, capacity-funded programs, grants administration, compliance, and infrastructure planning, while advancing operational efficiency, modernization, and risk management.

Integration of research, teaching, and Extension (15%) centers on enabling collaborative systems, incentives, and structures that connect research activities with academic programs, Extension delivery, and workforce development.

Faculty support, research development, and compliance (15%) includes ensuring regulatory and reporting compliance, strengthening proposal development and grant stewardship, and providing mentorship and professional development to support faculty success across career stages.

Statewide, regional, and national leadership (10%) involves advancing CALS research priorities through strategic partnerships, policy engagement, and representation in experiment station and agricultural research leadership organizations to enhance impact and resource leverage.

This administrative appointment or the administrative portion of the faculty appointment is temporary. Employee acknowledges and agrees that in the event there is no longer a need for the administrative assignment, as determined by University in its sole discretion, University may change this Agreement and remove the administrative salary and/or course release during the contract year and employee may return to their faculty appointment, upon 60 days written notice.
