Quality Director
Salary Range: $115,000 - $145,000 DOE

Summary

The Director of Quality Assurance is responsible for the design, maintenance, and continued certification of the QMS to appropriate contract and industry requirements. The primary objective is to reduce all non‑conformances by continually improving process capability. The position is responsible for the identification of appropriate inspection methods and planning for the resources required. The position will lead and direct all Quality Engineers and Quality administrative/clerical personnel to accomplish these objectives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and administer the company's Quality Management System as required to maintain qualification, ensure compliance, and/or certification to customer and industry standards.
  • Identify quality staffing and training needs in support of company objectives.
  • Manage and direct the activities of the quality engineers and quality administrative/clerical staff to ensure consistency and compliance with customer requirements and company procedures and methods.
  • Support organizational initiatives related to Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement activities.
  • Manage internal audit, corrective action, and process improvement programs along with establishing effective corrective action.
  • Responsible for the creation, compliance with maintenance of the Quality Assurance Manual and procedures in accordance with ISO 9001:2000 and AS9100 standards.
  • Manage data associated with the non‑conformance tracking and associated analysis and reports.
  • Provide information for the development of proposals, including capability assessment and cost estimates.
  • Prepare and manage forecasts on test equipment and asset justification (CAR).
  • Oversee non‑conforming material handling and disposition of material.
  • Support concurrent engineering efforts by participating in design development projects (PDR, CDR, CCB) representing Quality Assurance and the customer.
  • Review incoming and outgoing purchase orders for the inclusion of quality assurance provisions.
  • Review and approve work instructions as needed.
  • Manage the process for qualifying potential suppliers and auditing applicable suppliers. Support Supply Chain in ensuring suppliers comply and correct deficiencies.
  • Review Qualification Test Plans, Inspection Plans and other associated planning.
  • Ensure on‑time response to internal and external customers.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering with 10+ years of experience in Quality Engineering and manufacturing (aerospace or electronics manufacturing preferred).
  • AS9100 expertise.
  • Lean and Continuous Improvement experience (Black Belt or other industry certifications preferred).
  • Extensive knowledge of Aerospace and government procurement Quality requirements, including ITAR, DFAR.

  • Conscientious about assignments and complete work in a timely, accurate and thorough manner.
  • Require minimal supervision to successfully complete tasks and assignments.
  • Demonstrate initiative and ownership of assignments/projects.
  • Report to work at scheduled time and maintain satisfactory attendance with limited unscheduled absences.
  • Exhibit a professional appearance and behavior and maintain satisfactory performance consistent with expectations of the position and GMS policies.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing with executives, colleagues and individuals, internal or external.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, able to effectively interact with all levels of employees and management.
  • Remain poised, professional and diplomatic under pressure.
  • Strong computer skills with a working knowledge of programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.

  • Work on site the standard 8 AM–5 PM, Monday – Friday schedule and additional hours as necessary.
  • Limited travel required.
