Technical Theater Director Position for the 2026–2027 school year at an independent school in New York, NY.

Responsibilities

Oversee technical support for K-12 performing arts productions.

Manage setup and maintenance of sound, lighting, and AV equipment for school events.

Lead technical planning for all productions, including design integration, build timelines, load‑in, technical rehearsals, and post‑show strike operations.

Collaborate with students and faculty to produce dance, music, and theater productions.

Supervise and mentor students in technical theater disciplines such as set construction, lighting design, sound, and stage management.

Plan and control budget to ensure strategic allocation of resources.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Technical Theater, Education, or a related field required (Master’s preferred).

Previous experience with set design, sound, lighting, and/or stage management required.

Prior K–12 theater experience strongly preferred.

Extensive knowledge of technical theater, equipment, and best practices.

Ability to build sets for theater productions.

Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Desired Qualities

Interest in contributing to the school community outside the classroom (e.g., coaching, advising, or leading student clubs).

Woodworking experience preferred.
