Job Summary:

The Technical Director will serve as a technical lead during live or taped studio broadcast productions. Responsibilities include setting up and operating production switcher and associated equipment, evaluating and assigning video inputs, orchestrating control room setups, collaborating with the Producer to realize the creative vision, managing live production technical aspects, and leading the control room crew.

Responsibilities

Set up and operate production switchers and technical equipment in the Production Control Room and/or live location during live game and/or studio broadcast productions.

Orchestrate control room setup while evaluating and assigning all video inputs, considering timing and video levels.

Collaborate with the Producer to execute the technical and artistic vision for each live newscast and studio production.

Lead the technical portion of the production team during setup, coordinating equipment and show elements through the production switcher.

Work with traffic/HUB entities to verify correct routing of all video and audio signals.

During production, recall video sources, transitions, and effects, route studio monitors per Producer instructions, and monitor all sources to ensure correct video levels and timing.

Handle the pressures of live programming and limited time constraints.

Work closely with Technical Operations and Production Engineering to troubleshoot and resolve technical problems for live locations, PCRs, and studio productions.

Coordinate with Production Engineering, Technical Operations, and Production Management to identify and procure necessary equipment.

Create documentation on switcher builds, effects, and setup for each broadcast production.

Operate the Video Switcher for live and pre‑taped programming.

Act as Director for certain shows when required.

Communicate with producers, studio, and control room crew to execute live and pre‑taped programming.

Lead control room and studio crew to produce regular, special, and live show programming.

Work with feeds team for remote guests and live hits.

Assist remote crews, reporters, and remote hosts throughout the day.

Communicate with on‑air talent when necessary.

Possess strong troubleshooting, problem‑solving, and adaptability skills.

Frequently develop solutions to address root causes of technical issues.

Qualifications

Minimum 2 years of broadcast experience as a Technical Director in live remote or studio productions.

Hands‑on experience in switching, audio, graphics, character generators, robotics, and automated rundown software.

Knowledge of current industry standards, FCC regulations, and broadcast technologies.

Understanding of video signal flow, video router operations, and IP router operations.

Proficiency with various video switchers and digital effects devices.

Experience using ENPS or similar news production systems and Ross Overdrive automation.

Preferred experience with Edius and Adobe Creative Suite editing software.

Computer skills with MS Office.

Ability to work flexible, non‑traditional hours, including weekends and holidays.

Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish.
