The Role The Junior Estimator supports the estimating team by coordinating bid documents, performing quantity take-offs, assisting with subcontractor pricing, and handling related administrative tasks. Under the supervision of senior estimators, this role helps develop accurate, timely, and competitive bids while learning the full estimating process with a clear path to Estimator.

Job Responsibilities

Document Coordination

Review and analyze construction documents to understand project scope for bidding.

Perform detailed quantity take-offs using Excel, Procore, One Team, OpenSpace, and Bluebeam, under the guidance of senior estimators.

Review drawing revisions and specifications to identify scope changes and discrepancies.

Prepare and maintain scope sheets and other estimating templates.

Create and maintain Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) tutorials for estimating workflows.

Estimating and Bidding Support

Assist Estimators in reviewing and comparing subcontractor quotes for completeness and alignment with scope.

Upload and organize quotes and bid documents in the appropriate software systems.

Follow up with subcontractors to obtain, clarify, and revise quotes before bid deadlines.

Assist with site visits by taking photos, notes, and documenting clarifications and RFIs.

Support the preparation of bid forms, alternates, and proposal documents as directed.

Subcontractor Coordination

Schedule and confirm site visits with subcontractors to review project scope.

Help maintain and update subcontractor contact lists and prequalification information.

Build rapport with subcontractors through timely communication and follow-up.

Client and Team Collaboration

Attend pre‑bid meetings and best‑and‑final meetings to take notes and document required adjustments.

Participate in Project Management Turnover meetings to ensure a clear handoff of estimating information.

Provide professional, responsive support to clients during the bid phase as directed by senior staff.

Attend departmental meetings and contribute to continuous improvement of estimating processes.

Other Responsibilities

Perform other estimating and preconstruction support duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field preferred.

Alternatively, minimum 2 years of experience supporting estimating, design‑related activities, or project management teams in construction.

Technical Skills

Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and cloud‑based applications.

Experience with Procore, OpenSpace, and Bluebeam preferred; willingness to learn required.

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret architectural/engineering drawings and specifications.

Understanding of or exposure to design‑build, construction management, and hard‑bid project delivery methods.

Strong attention to detail and accuracy in quantity take‑offs and data entry.

Soft Skills

Strong collaboration skills with internal teams, subcontractors, and clients.

Clear verbal and written communication, including professional email and meeting documentation.

Solid analytical and problem‑solving skills with a willingness to ask questions and learn.

Effective time management and ability to handle multiple bids and deadlines.

Positive attitude, curiosity about construction means and methods, and desire to grow into an Estimator role.

Career Path and Development This role is designed as an entry point into our estimating team, with a structured path for growth based on performance, skills, and initiative: Junior Estimator → Estimator → Senior Estimator → Team Lead Estimator.

As a Junior Estimator, you will receive on‑the‑job training, exposure to a variety of project types, and mentorship from senior staff. As you demonstrate proficiency in independent quantity take‑offs, quote analysis, and scope development, you will assume greater responsibility for preparing full estimates and leading bid efforts.
