Job Summary The Residence Director works collaboratively with the Residence Life staff and University community to create a positive living‑learning environment for students consistent with the University’s Catholic mission. This position is a 12‑month, live‑in role reporting to the Associate Director, responsible for the overall management of a residence hall (or halls). The primary focus is on developing students through large‑scale programming, crisis intervention, student outreach and advisement.
Essential Functions
Serve in a 24‑hour crisis intervention duty rotation, responding to students in distress, facilities, and other on‑campus emergencies.
Act as a resource and referral agent, liaise with Public Safety, Counselor on Call, campus partners, and families/emergency contacts.
Provide post‑crisis incident follow‑up at the individual and community level, complete incident reports, and serve as a member of the Students of Concern Committee.
Supervision, Selection, Training, and Evaluation of Student Staff
Supervise Resident Assistants, plan and facilitate weekly staff meetings, conduct bi‑weekly meetings with individual staff members, evaluate staff on a semester basis.
Participate in Resident Assistant recruitment, selection, and rehire process, facilitate and participate in RA training programs and ongoing developmental training sessions.
Administration/Operations
Direct overall management and operation of the residence hall(s), establish office hours, submit administrative reports and forms, supervise hall opening and closing procedures.
Assist with room selection for returning students, room assignment process for new students, maintain inventories of residence hall equipment and furnishings, coordinate assessment initiatives.
Oversee department projects as assigned, conduct weekly building inspections.
Programming/Staff Development
Supervise staff and Hall Council in outcomes‑based programming development.
Provide ongoing development for Resident Assistant staff, track hall programming in university programming database and master calendar.
Support and attend university events and programs, supervise living/learning community initiatives.
Attend weekly departmental staff meetings, SCC meetings, bi‑weekly 1:1 with Associate Director.
Promote student development, including civic engagement, academic success, career readiness, and DEIB.
Plan, advertise, and host educational and social programming in the halls, support large‑scale programming efforts.
Chair a collateral assignment within the Office of Residence Life.
Student Conduct
Communicate guidelines of conduct that protect student rights, generate conduct correspondence, advise and support Resident Assistants and students regarding conduct matters.
Track incident reports and sanctions in university conduct databases, consult with the Director of Student Conduct and Director of Residence Life regarding referrals.
Enforce University and residence hall policies, coordinate with Public Safety, manage roommate conflicts.
Hall Council/Residence Hall Association
Serve as primary advisor to Hall Council and student organizations, attend Hall Council meetings and required trainings.
Adhere to advisement protocols, meet regularly with Hall Council executive board, support RHA and Hall Council programs.
Facilitate development of Senior RA as co‑advisor of hall council.
Miscellaneous
Participate in professional staff selection process, maintain contact with building desk attendants and maintenance staff.
Coordinate various summer projects, serve on university committees, assist with departmental projects and initiatives.
Coordinate university and building‑wide communications, deliver policy and procedures.
Leverage social media to communicate with students, develop marketing for departmental initiatives and events.
Participate in housing selection process and housing portal development/maintenance.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Competencies
Strong supervision, communication, and managerial skills.
Knowledge of StarRez, Microsoft Office Suite, Banner and other systems with advanced computer skills.
Experience working with international, first‑generation, student athletes, and diverse populations.
Multilingual candidates preferred.
Student‑focused, collaborative, appreciator of Vincentian mission, nurturing living‑learning communities, ability to work independently, strong decision‑making, sound judgment.
Qualifications
A master’s degree in higher education or related field and prior residence life experience.
Graduate students in final stages encouraged to apply.
Experience with international, first‑generation, student athletes, diverse populations preferred.
Multilingual candidates with international experience preferred.
Proficiency with StarRez, Banner, Microsoft Office, CANVAS, GroupMe, LinkedIn, Facebook, X, Instagram.
History of data management, research, housing projection models preferred.
Work Environment The position operates in a professional office environment and requires use of standard office equipment.
Physical Demands Occasional standing, walking, sitting, lifting up to 30 lbs, use of vision abilities.
Expected Hours Monday‑Thursday 8:30‑4:30 a.m., Friday 8:30‑3:00 p.m.; extensive night and weekend work required.
Travel
Primarily local; may include visits to other NY campuses.
Compensation Competitive salary with 1‑ or 2‑bedroom campus apartment, partial meal plan, competitive benefits package. Annual salary $64,350 (NYC Pay Transparency Act).
