
Director of Finance

The Director of Finance for Experience Scottsdale is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day financial operations of the organization, ensuring accuracy, compliance, internal control integrity, and timely financial reporting. This hands‑on position, which reports to the CFO, manages accounting operations, supervises the accountant, and partners closely with the CFO to support strategic financial planning and organizational decision‑making.
The Director of Finance plays a key leadership role within the accounting function and supports the CFO in preparing materials for executive leadership, the Finance Committee, and the Board of Directors. In the absence of the CFO, this role may present financial information to leadership or the Board.

Accounting Operations & Financial Reporting:
Oversee all accounting operations, including general ledger and accounts payable, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance. Lead the month‑end and year‑end close processes, including review of journal entries and reconciliations. Oversee the preparation, review, and accuracy of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for leadership and Board reporting. Ensure compliance with GAAP and all applicable regulatory requirements. Serve as primary liaison to external auditors and oversee audit preparation, including required schedules and documentation. Oversee the preparation and timely filing of all local, state, and federal tax returns (excluding investment‑related filings). Complete required organizational surveys and financial reporting obligations.
Budgeting, Forecasting & Financial Analysis:
Lead the annual budgeting process in partnership with department leaders and the CFO. Assist the CFO in preparing budget‑to‑actual variance analyses and recommendations to leadership. Develop and maintain financial forecasts to support strategic and operational planning.
Financial Operations & Cash Management:
Oversee cash flow, liquidity and working capital to ensure the organization meets all operational needs, including payroll. Oversee accounts payable and receivable processes to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and adherence to internal policies. Support CFO in monitoring financial performance metrics and evaluating overall organizational financial health.
System & Process Improvement:
Develop, document, and continuously improve internal controls, financial policies, and procedures. Oversee financial systems, including optimization, maintenance, vendor management, and coordination with IT vendors to ensure reliability and efficiency. Develop and document financial policies and procedures. Lead initiatives to automate processes, enhance reporting capabilities, and improve workflow efficiency and accuracy.
Leadership & Organizational Engagement:
Supervise, mentor and develop the accountant, and any additional staff, to ensure high performance and professional growth. Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and collaboration. Partner with internal stakeholders to support organizational goals and ensure alignment on financial priorities. Collaborate with the CFO on strategic initiatives and special projects.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
Strong knowledge of GAAP.
Demonstrated experience managing month‑end close, audit preparation, and financial reporting.
Experience supervising accounting staff.
Advanced analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present financial information clearly.
High level of integrity, discretion, and professional judgment.
Experience with financial systems and process improvement initiatives.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and accounting software systems.
Preferred:
Knowledge and familiarity with IT services and systems
Auditing experience
Education & Experience Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required, and CPA certification preferred. Minimum of 6 years progressive accounting, including supervisory responsibility. Experience in non‑profit, membership‑based or destination marketing organizations preferred.
Supervisory Responsibility This position is responsible for the direct supervision of the accountant.
Work Environment & Physical Demands This job includes both office and remote work. Active participation in outside meetings and destination activities may be required. The role routinely uses standard office equipment and requires prolonged periods of sitting and working at a computer.
Position Type & Expected Hours of Work Full‑time position. Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Occasional evening or weekend work may be required. Minimal travel required.
