Job Summary The Employee Relations Specialist, Sr leads complex employee relations matters, handles medium to high risk and sensitive workplace fact findings, provides strategic guidance in conflict resolution, partners with HR and business leaders to address performance management challenges, and ensures compliance with employment laws. The role also contributes to process improvement and enterprise‑wide risk mitigation.
Job Duties / Responsibilities
Serve as primary point of contact for employee relations issues across multiple business units.
Oversee and guide high‑risk or sensitive employee relations matters.
Independently manage a wide range of employee relations cases including fact findings, policy violations, misconduct, and interpersonal conflict; provide recommendations to management.
Provide conflict resolution and mediation services to help employees and managers address workplace disputes.
Support the performance management process; advise on disciplinary actions, performance improvement plans, suspensions, demotions and terminations.
Consult employees and managers on the interpretation and application of company policies.
Assist drafting coaching or disciplinary documents and talking points.
Maintain timely, accurate documentation in the ER case management system.
Collaborate with HR Business Partners, Labor Relations, Legal, and Compliance for consistent and compliant practices.
Identify trends and recommend solutions.
Contribute to continuous improvement of the employee relations function.
Support data‑driven decision‑making by compiling case metrics and contributing to regular reporting cycles.
Contribute to the design and delivery of employee relations training programs.
Mentor junior ER team members by sharing best practices.
Maintain knowledge of labor laws, compliance requirements, and reduce legal and labor risks.
Perform other assigned duties.
Minimum Education
Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or related field OR equivalent work experience.
Minimum Experience
6 years of HR or related experience without a degree or 5 years with a degree.
Experience supporting a large, multi‑site U.S. workforce (10,000+) inclusive of union‑represented workers preferred.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Advanced communication, influencing, and leadership skills.
Maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
Ensure compliance with labor laws and regulations.
Knowledge of labor laws and regulations.
Certifications
HR certification (PHR, SPHR, SHRM‑CP, SHRM‑SCP) is a plus.
Location & Travel
Primary Location: New Orleans, Louisiana or The Woodlands, Texas.
Travel: Up to 25%.
