Director - Banking & Receivables
Directs, plans, coordinates and supervises the operation and activities of a specialized unit or small department; develops and implements policies and procedures, administers the budget, organizes tasks and sets priorities. Serves as liaison with university personnel and community at large. Works under general supervision with broad latitude for initiative and independent judgment.

Major/Essential Functions
- Attend and participate in training and professional development related to accounting, finance, and leadership
- Utilize proactive, clear and professional communication to provide changes and relevant information to supervisor and colleagues
- Document and update business processes and procedures
- Build cross functional partnerships with internal customers across the organization
- Process requests in the Budget Revision System approval queue
- Process requests in the Financial Transaction System (FiTS) approval queue
- Recommend, develop and implement process improvements
- Assist with various accounting and finance system implementations
- Complete assigned year end tasks to assist with the preparation of the Annual Financial Report (AFR)
- Review and approve fund setup requests that were processed by other Accounting Services team members
- Review and approve routine financial transactions and reports prepared by other Accounting Services team members
- Supervise employees effectively within area of responsibility and ensure that they have a great environment to work and grow professionally
- Assist with providing general accounting, banking and credit card management, and grant oversight to ensure compliance with institutional policies and procedures
- Management of specifically assigned accounting processes
- Effective communication and collaboration with stakeholders related to the management of accounting processes based on institutional policies and procedures
- Review of documents to determine specific terms, conditions and reporting requirements
- Perform routine and nonroutine analysis of financial data and monitor transactions in order to: adhere to governing regulations, policies and procedures; and support accuracy and completeness of university financial data and related reporting
- Provide oversight of routine financial transactions and reconciliations to ensure the integrity of financial data
- Ability to make independent judgements and decisions based on established guidelines, state and federal regulations, and other compliance standards
- Prepare and analyze various reports
- Assist with developing strategies, processes, and workflows that improve accounting and administrative processes
- Assist with maintenance of the Chart H fund structure
- Manage the month end close for those processes specifically assigned to position

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in governmental/fund accounting.
- Grant or similar project accounting experience.
- Extensive overall knowledge of external accounting software e.g. USAS (State of Texas accounting system).
- Experience with the Banner finance system.
- Experience supervising/managing departmental personnel.
- Experience or education in performing advanced organization and summarization of financial data.
- Experiencewith financial/accounting systems and proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel.
- Accounting or Financial reporting experience at a public institution of higher education in the state of Texas.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related degree.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a related area plus five years of progressively responsible management experience OR a combination of education and/or years of experience in management to equal a minimum of 9 years.
