Job Summary The Social Media Specialist will oversee and execute day-to-day social media responsibilities for the university president, including creating and posting content, monitoring interactions, and executing campaigns. They will develop current and potential social media properties, spearhead new initiatives, and participate in presidential social media efforts.
Responsibilities Work with the Director of Communications and Social Media Assistant Director to create campaigns, manage the content calendar, and schedule content per university priorities for the President.
Provide regular reports on content performance to optimize overall social media strategy.
Monitor audience interactions on social media platforms, identifying potential reputation risks and reporting them to appropriate parties.
Attend university and external events to provide social media coverage and travel with the President when needed.
Identify opportunities and strategies for new social media profiles and initiatives.
Assist in enforcing social media policy, procedures, and registration.
Create or edit content with multimedia tools (stories, reels).
Develop content briefs for executive communications or multimedia teams, ensuring timely delivery and publishing.
Produce written, visual, and multimedia content tailored to specific platforms and audiences.
Provide guidance on best practices to the President and help resolve issues with other FIU social media properties.
Cultivate relationships with fellow university communicators to facilitate tasks and joint ventures.
Monitor other university-owned social media properties and advise when necessary.
Stay current on the latest social media trends and state‑of‑the‑art technologies, interpreting administrative rules and recommending improvements.
Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, Marketing or a related field and at least one year of experience managing social media in a communications, marketing, or public relations setting.
Desired Qualifications Minimum of three years managing a marketing channel or product line.
Departmental Requirements Provide 3–4 URLs of managed social media campaigns.
Salary $50,000 – $58,000
Work Schedule Begin time: 8:30 AM
End time: 5:00 PM
Working Conditions Operating university vehicles (all types).

Other Information Ability to work flexible hours as needed.
Ability to work occasional evenings, weekends, and at locations outside of the University.
Travel to FIU Campus.
