
Finance Director

Our client is hiring a Finance Director to be a strategic thought-partner that will lead and develop an internal team to support the organization's Mission, Values, and the following areas: Finance, Budgeting, Grant Management, and Administration. The incumbent will play a critical role in partnering with the senior leadership team in strategic decision making and operations as the organization enhances its quality programming and capacity building.
Responsibilities
- Analyze and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner; clearly communicate monthly and annual financial statements; collate financial reporting materials for all donor segments, and oversee all financial, project/program, and grants accounting.
- Coordinate and lead the annual audit process, consult with external auditors and the Finance Committee of the Board of Directors; assess necessary changes.
- Oversee and lead annual budgeting and planning process in conjunction with the Executive Director.
- Administer and review all financial plans and budgets; monitor progress and changes; and keep senior leadership team abreast of the organization’s financial status.
- Manage organizational cash flow and forecasting.
- Ensure that bank and credit card accounts are reconciled monthly.
- Implement a robust contracts management and fiscal management system.
- Ensure that the contract billing and collection schedules are adhered to, and that financial data and cash flow are steady.
- Assist in preparation of reports, including providing financial analysis and statistical information.
- Ensure that the organization complies with local, state, and federal laws and regulations that impact the organization's financial practices and policies, including following Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Update and implement all necessary business policies and accounting practices; improve the finance department’s overall policy and procedure manual.
- Responsible for submitting annual information for retirement accounts, etc. filing of the 5500 and
- Effectively communicate and present critical financial matters to the Board of Directors.
Administration
- Supervises the administrative functions for finance, human resources, grants accounting and reporting, volunteers, and operations.
- Ensures compliance with payroll, benefits administration (health insurance, 401k), and labor law compliance.
- Manages the selection and implementation of applications such as QuickBooks, Bloomerang or other CRMs, ADP, Electronic Line of Credit Control System (eLOCCS), and Microsoft Office Suites.
- Supervises contracts with equipment and IT vendors.
- Assists the Executive Director in negotiating business insurance policies and vendor contracts.
- Support core functions to ensure that the organization runs efficiently
- Ensures that the physical and service locations are safe, functional, and cost effective.
Supervision
- Supervises the following positions: Grants Administrator, Finance Assistant, Volunteer Outreach Manager, Receptionist (part-time), Operations Assistant and HR Manager.
- Conducts evaluations and annual reviews.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree required, MBA/CPA or related degree preferred.
- At least 7-10 years of overall professional experience; ideally 6+ years of broad financial and operations management experience.
- The ideal candidate has experience of the final responsibility for the quality and content of all financial data, reporting and audit coordination for either a division or significant program area, and has preferably overseen a human resources function previously.
- Ability to translate financial concepts and to effectively collaborate with programmatic and fundraising colleagues who do not necessarily have finance backgrounds.
- Technology savvy with experience selecting and overseeing software installations and managing relationships with software vendors; and knowledge of accounting and reporting software.
- Self-starter with demonstrated skills in initiative, problem-solving, negotiations, and proven results.
- Proficient CRM, QuickBooks, Bloomerang, ADP, Microsoft Office Suite, and Google Workspace ability to acquire new skills.
