Aquatics Director
Location: Regional (East Windsor, Hillsborough, Warren, Westfield, Princeton and Mount Laurel, NJ).
Reports to: Senior Aquatics Director and VP of Operations.
Position Type: Seasonal (Summer).
Duration: June - per diem, flexible schedule for training days, opening pools, etc. Beginning July 6 to August 28, Full Time Monday – Friday, 8 hour shift, 40 hours per week.
Description
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Aquatics Director to lead our summer camp water programs within our Early Childhood Education schools. This regional role offers the opportunity to work across multiple campuses, traveling throughout the week to support and guide different teams. The Aquatics Director will ensure a safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate aquatic experience for young children while providing leadership, training, and oversight to aquatics staff at each location. This is an ideal position for a hands‑on leader who enjoys variety, collaboration, and working in a child‑centered environment.
Responsibilities
Program Leadership
- Create a structured aquatics schedule aligned with the camp’s daily routine.
- Ensure all activities support early childhood developmental goals (social, emotional, physical).
Safety & Compliance
- Maintain strict adherence to all local, state, and school safety regulations.
- Enforce pool rules and water safety protocols at all times.
- Conduct daily safety checks of pool areas and equipment.
- Monitor water quality and coordinate with maintenance as needed.
- Ensure proper child‑to‑staff ratios in and around water.
Supervision & Staffing
- Hire, train, and supervise lifeguards and aquatics staff.
- Provide ongoing coaching and performance feedback.
- Review scheduled staff to ensure adequate coverage at all times.
- Lead regular safety drills and emergency preparedness training.
Child Supervision & Engagement
- Ensure a nurturing, supportive, and inclusive environment for all children.
- Support children who may be hesitant or new to water experiences.
- Communicate effectively with counselors and teachers to support each child’s needs.
Communication
- Collaborate with school leadership to align programming.
- Report incidents, concerns, and daily updates to leadership.
Emergency Response
- Respond quickly and effectively to emergencies in accordance with training.
- Maintain current certifications and ensure all staff are properly certified (CPR, First Aid, Red Cross Lifeguarding).
Requirements
- Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification (required and current or willing to obtain).
- Current Lifeguard Certification (Red Cross or equivalent), including CPR/AED and First Aid.
- Minimum 2–3 years of experience in aquatics supervision or management.
- Experience working with young children in a camp, school, or ECE setting strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated leadership experience, including training and supervising staff.
- Strong knowledge of water safety standards, risk management, and emergency procedures.
- Ability to travel between multiple school locations throughout the week (reliable transportation required).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams and sites.
- Highly organized, adaptable, and able to manage responsibilities across multiple locations.
- Comfortable working outdoors in summer conditions.
- Must be able to lift and move up to 50 lbs.
- Must have valid driver’s license.
Compensation
$25 per hour
