Position Overview McDermott + Bull is seeking a high-performing
Director of Business Development – Interim Management
to drive growth within our Interim Leaders practice across Southern California. This individual will report to the President. They will be responsible for generating new business opportunities, cultivating executive-level client relationships, and positioning our interim management solutions as a strategic resource for organizations navigating transition, transformation, or urgent leadership gaps. The ideal candidate brings a strong consultative sales background, a deep understanding of professional services, and a proven ability to engage C-suite stakeholders. This role requires a proactive, relationship-driven professional who thrives in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
Key Responsibilities Develop and execute a regional business development strategy to expand McDermott + Bull’s Interim Leaders presence across Southern California Identify, target, and secure new client relationships within middle-market and enterprise organizations Build and maintain strong relationships with C-level executives, private equity firms, and key decision-makers Partner closely with internal recruiting and delivery teams to align client needs with interim executive talent Lead consultative sales conversations to diagnose client challenges and position tailored interim leadership solutions Manage the full sales lifecycle, from prospecting through deal close and account expansion Leverage existing network and proactively build new relationships through networking, events, and referrals Track pipeline activity, forecast revenue, and consistently meet or exceed sales targets Stay informed on market trends, competitive landscape, and client needs within key industries
Qualifications Minimum of 8 years of professional sales or business development experience, preferably within consulting, executive search, staffing, or professional services Proven track record of meeting or exceeding revenue targets in a consultative sales environment Experience selling to senior executives (C-suite, VP-level) within mid-market or enterprise organizations Strong understanding of interim management, consulting, or human capital solutions is highly preferred Exceptional relationship-building, communication, and presentation skills Highly self-motivated with strong business acumen and strategic thinking abilities Ability to operate both independently and collaboratively within a team environment Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree or relevant certifications a plus
Preferred Experience Existing network within Southern California business community Familiarity with industries such as healthcare, manufacturing, technology, consumer goods, and/or financial services
