
Energy Analyst I

The Energy Analyst helps clients understand potential opportunities for energy-efficient improvements to their structures by measuring a building’s energy efficiency using information gathered from meters and utility bills and advising on conservation methods. They visit sites to inspect facilities, assess their energy conservation measures and programs, and conduct energy audits. They measure efficiency, analyze data on energy used, develop energy models for buildings, recommend improvements, and assist contractors with technical support during the installation process.
They will also be assisting commissioning agents on staff with Velocity and creating customized plans for energy efficiency improvements. Depending on the size and complexity of the project the process may be executed by one person or an entire team. A commissioning agent works closely with lead contractors to ensure that a building or construction project meets the operational requirements of the client. Your job duties involve assisting overseeing the design, installation, testing, and maintenance of all components, materials, and systems.

Job Responsibilities: Learn the commissioning process. Learn Audit Process Seattle Building Tune-Up execution including documentation. Assist with Washington State Clean Buildings Act execution including documentation. Assist with City of Seattle’s Building Emissions Performance Standards program Execute Velocity’s Energy Services strategic objectives and policies Monitor and focus progress towards achieving the objectives and policies To actively seek adequate knowledge about the business of the organization. Professional training and development will be required. To provide strong support for the long-term strategies of the organization. To perform the assignments delegated by your supervisor and leadership To devote sufficient time to the duties of tasks assigned To uphold high ethical standards To assist and provide training to customers, staff, subordinates, and others as required To work mixed schedules, off hours, weekends and holidays within reason and as required to achieve positive Cx, and Energy project related task outcomes.
Duties and Requirements:
Assist in developing and documenting the Energy Management Services Group standards. Customize building energy policies and programs for customers. Participate in webinars, create content for LinkedIn and join affiliations rated to energy programs in the state. Pursue certifications that support this role. Examples include ACP or CCP, CEA, CEM, LEED GA or others. Travel for work as needed. Travel to Central Washington, Eastern Washington, Oregon and other states may be necessary for future projects. General understanding of all mechanical and electrical building systems. Must understand or learn appropriate national and local codes and how to identify compliance. Must have the ability to utilize computer programs such as MS Word, Excel, Teams, etc. Must be capable of managing multiple projects. Must apply the following skills to your work: communications, decision making, job knowledge, judgment, planning and organization, and problem solving. Must be able to frequently perform strenuous physical activity including but not limited to stand for eight or more hours at a time, move in rugged or unstable conditions, work in adverse weather, handle or feel objects, tools or controls which may not be visible, reach overhead. Occasionally it may be required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Must be able to move about the work area and travel to worksites as needed or required. Must be able to communicate with a variety of individuals; must be able to follow verbal and written instructions/directions and respond to inquiries. Assist with monitoring project tasks to maintain budget, schedule, and scope of work. Maintain contact with the client during the project. Organize and maintain project files (electronic and paper). Collect and analyze data on energy usage and production, including electricity, natural gas, and other sources. Assist with conducting energy audits of buildings and facilities to identify opportunities for energy savings and recommend energy efficiency measures. Develop and use models to forecast energy demand and supply, including the impact of changes in technology, policy, and weather patterns. Assist with analyzing energy policies and regulations and make recommendations for improvements or changes. Assist with preparation of reports and presentations on energy data, analysis, and recommendations for stakeholders, including management, clients, and regulatory agencies. Assist with providing consulting services to businesses, organizations, and government agencies to help them identify and implement energy efficiency measures. Evaluate and analyze renewable energy technologies and systems, including solar, wind, geothermal, and hydro power, to identify opportunities for implementation and optimization. Assist with execution of energy projects from inception to completion, including planning, budgeting, and coordination with other departments and contractors. Monitor energy markets and trends, including supply and demand, pricing, and regulatory changes, and use this information to inform energy policy and investment decisions. Evaluate the environmental and social impact of energy systems and technologies and make recommendations for sustainable practices and policies. Assist Commissioning Agents with documentation and execution for the Cx process. This may apply to multiple projects simultaneously. Effectively communicate scope, deficiencies, and action plans to the customer Assist in developing Energy Management Plans and Operations and Maintenance manuals. Utilize City, State, Government portals to enter information that will enable our customers to comply with energy requirements. Learn to utilize EnergyStar Portfolio Manager. This includes all data entry and utilizing the data output. Learn how to utilize excel to perform energy assessments, generate graphs for reporting, and comparative data analysis.
Qualifications Capabilities & Experience: Basic understanding of MEP systems required. Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel required. Previous experience performing energy analysis duties desired.
Education: Associates Degree or Sustainable Building Science Technology at South Seattle College in their BAS program (or equivalent) desired, or equivalent experience and education is required.
