What We Can Achieve Together We are looking for a Climate and Renewable Energy Policy Associate to advance The Nature Conservancy (TNC) Utah’s and the Western U.S. Climate and Renewable Energy (CARE) program’s work. You will work 50% with the Utah External Affairs team and 50% with the Western U.S. CARE program, collaborating with staff across TNC to build influence, develop partnerships and strategies, and track progress toward emission‑reduction goals. Key responsibilities include building external influencing networks, participating in working groups and partner convenings on topics such as transmission, critical minerals development, and project siting, setting metrics, tracking progress, communicating vision and impact, and engaging in fundraising activities to support TNC’s mission. You will also analyze and report on TNC’s climate‑mitigation policy activities across 11 Western states to gauge collective progress and coordinate with other policy staff on emerging state and federal policy.

We’re Looking For You In this hybrid role you will be based in Salt Lake City, Utah. You will provide strategic design and tracking, develop and advocate for policy and funding at state and federal levels, foster external relationships, facilitate internal and external outreach and communications, and engage in fundraising. For the Western U.S. CARE program you will track and support state energy and climate legislation, regulations guiding renewable energy and transmission planning, participate in multi‑state working groups and coalitions, and help identify high‑impact, mission‑focused climate and energy policy solutions.

What You’ll Bring

Bachelor’s degree and 3 years related experience or equivalent combination.

Fluency in English.

Experience presenting to or communicating with business, government, or legislative staff and/or program leadership.

Experience researching information from divergent sources and compiling it into a cohesive reporting structure.

Experience with legislative, planning, policy, or corporate initiatives at local, state, national or international levels.

Experience working with corporate or NGO partners and government agencies.

Desired Qualifications

Multilingual skills and multicultural experience appreciated.

Master’s degree appreciated.

Familiarity with social, economic and political conditions surrounding climate and clean energy in the United States, Western U.S., and Utah.

Familiarity with energy development, generation and storage; energy transmission; critical minerals; and project siting.

Experience building networks or organizational capacity, facilitating informational sessions, increasing internal knowledge and capacity, and identifying key stakeholders.

Experience coordinating projects in a decentralized organization, working across teams, operating units and functions to achieve optimal results.

Outstanding written and oral communication, negotiating and organizational skills.

Consistently demonstrate a professional, positive, approachable attitude and discretion.

Salary Information The starting pay range for this position is generally within the range of $71,200 - $75,650 for candidates employed in the USA. Actual pay within this range will vary based on location, qualifications, skills, and experience.
