Field Superintendent - Instrumentation

Job Summary:
The I&C Field Superintendent provides onsite leadership for construction activities primarily focused on the project's instrument and tubing installation. Ensuring all work is executed safely, meets technical requirements, and aligns with project schedule and budget objectives. This role directs craft labor and subcontractors, oversees daily field operations, and drives workforce planning, progress reporting, and cost/schedule performance. Working closely with engineering, construction management, and project controls, the Field Superintendent resolves constructability issues, supports the development of work scopes, and ensures effective use of automation tools and project procedures. The position plays a central role in maintaining quality, enforcing use of current design documents, and ensuring that tools, materials, and equipment are available to support efficient execution.
Major Responsibilities: Leadership / Supervision (Discipline Supervision up to 25 craft)
Supervises and/or directs craft activities as assigned.
Schedules work to be performed and reviews work accomplished by each craft.
Planning / Productivity
Determines workforce requirements.
Coordinates established area operational plans.
Monitors tool and equipment usage on the site.
Prepares Field Material Requisitions for tools and consumables and ensures that the crafts have the tools they require to be productive.
Safety & Quality
Ensures the most current design document is used to complete the work and that all design changes are approved prior to implementation.
Ensures assigned construction operations and subcontractors’ performance are in compliance with specifications and within schedules and budgets.
Technical
Works with Construction Field Engineers, Foremen, and Craft Professionals, in interpreting Engineering design documents, vendor documents, and other technical documents.
Coordinates engineering solutions with Subcontractors, and Foremen and Craft Professionals.
Education and Experience Requirements: Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 5-8 years of relevant experience or 9-12 years of relevant work experience.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
Previous experience delivering a combined cycle power plant as Field Superintendent.
Must be able interpret and understand P&ID’s
Must understand what tools are required for tubing installation and tool calibration needs
Demonstrate ability to problem-solve in high pressure situations. Heavy industrial direct hire construction experience in an instrumentation supervisory role
Works with Construction Field Engineers, Foremen, and Craft Professionals, in interpreting Engineering design documents, vendor documents, and other technical documents.
Oversees engineering solutions with Subcontractors, and Foremen and Craft Professionals.
Coordinates with Design on constructability issues.
Oversees the preparation of testing processes and required test equipment.
Inspects installed components for technical acceptance.
Oversees the development of Commodity Installation means and methods.
Implements understanding of industry / International Codes & Standards applicable to work scope.
Utilizes and leverages applicable automation software and processes as applicable.
A thorough knowledge of Heat Recovery Steam Generator (HRSG) erection.
A thorough knowledge of Section 1 and B31.1 codes.
Competent in supervising heavy lift activities.
A thorough knowledge of welding, including the latest technologies and NDE methods
A strong background in union craft management and understanding of the project labor agreement.
