Business Development Representative (Essen)

Groupon is a marketplace where customers discover new experiences and services everyday and local businesses thrive. We are looking for an Outside Sales Business Development Representative located in or near Essen who will build our marketplace by identifying, engaging, and onboarding new local merchants across a broad range of categories.

Responsibilities

Hunt new business in the field: Proactively identify and contact prospective local merchants across Essen and the Ruhr metropolitan area through outbound calls, in-person visits, and strategic territory planning.

Own your territory: Represent the Groupon brand, conduct merchant appointments in person, build local market knowledge, and establish Groupon as the partner of choice for local businesses.

Manage the full sales cycle: Qualify merchant needs, present Groupon's value proposition, negotiate deals, and close 3 merchants per week independently.

Meet performance targets: Achieve €20K‑22K Gross Profit per quarter, maintain 200 minutes of talk time per week, conduct 25‑30 solid calls weekly, and book 8‑10 appointments per week.

Master your pipeline: Maintain accurate activity tracking, pipeline updates, and forecasting in Salesforce with 40‑50 active opportunities.

Ensure merchant success: Collaborate with Merchant Success teams to support smooth onboarding and set partners up for success from day one.

Work autonomously in a 100% remote environment while staying connected to manager and wingman colleagues.

Leverage AI‑enabled tools to support outreach, prepare conversations, prioritize opportunities, and keep CRM data accurate.

Qualifications

Based in or near Essen – may travel within the Ruhr area for merchant visits.

Fluent German (native or business level) required for merchant communication.

Professional English needed for internal communication.

Sales experience or hunger to learn – minimum 1–2 years of sales or business development experience.

Hunter mentality: comfortable with cold calling, proactive prospecting, and in-person field sales.

Mobility within Essen/Ruhr metropolitan region to conduct visits.

Resilience: ability to handle rejection, stay motivated, and maintain momentum.

Strong communication skills: confident engaging with business owners by phone and in person.

Basic CRM familiarity: experience with Salesforce or similar tools is a plus; full training will be provided.

Success Metrics

Weekly: 3 closed merchants, 200 minutes of talk time, 25‑30 solid outbound calls, 8‑10 in‑person appointments booked.

Quarterly: €20,000‑€22,000 Gross Profit, healthy pipeline health and conversion rates, high quality and retention of onboarding merchants.
