Summary and Scope of the Position

The Director of Retail Operations is responsible for the execution, consistency, and performance of all Prairie Island CBH Inc. retail operations. This role leads the day-to-day operation of retail locations, ensuring that company standards, operating procedures, regulatory requirements, and performance expectations established by the CEO and Board of Directors are implemented effectively across the retail enterprise. The Director of Retail Operations serves as the primary operational leader for retail execution, translating company strategy into disciplined, compliant, and efficient store‑level operations. This position oversees retail staffing structures, training implementation, operational systems, customer experience standards, and performance metrics, while ensuring seamless coordination with distribution, compliance, marketing, and finance functions. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the Director of Retail Operations is accountable for retail operational readiness, ongoing performance optimization, and the successful execution of new retail openings. This role assists with mapping enterprise strategy and plays a critical role in informing leadership through accurate reporting, KPI tracking, and operational insight to support decision‑making, growth, and long‑term sustainability.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Retail Operations and Execution
  • Lead all day-to-day retail operations, ensuring consistent execution of company standards, SOPs, and regulatory requirements
  • Ensure retail locations operate efficiently, safely, and in full compliance with Tribal, state, and federal regulations
  • Monitor retail performance, customer experience, and operational readiness across all stores
  • Performance Management and Reporting
  • Track and manage retail KPIs, including sales performance, labor efficiency, compliance metrics, and customer experience indicators
  • Provide accurate and timely operational reporting to the CEO
  • Identify operational risks, inefficiencies, and improvement opportunities and propose corrective actions
  • People Leadership, Training, and Development
  • Lead, develop, and support retail managers and supervisors, ensuring clarity of expectations and accountability
  • Implement training programs and operational education in coordination with Human Resources and compliance leadership
  • Foster a positive, professional retail culture focused on teamwork, accountability, and customer service excellence
  • Support performance evaluations, coaching, and corrective action as needed
  • Cross‑Functional Coordination
  • Work closely with the Director of Distribution Operations to ensure product availability, inventory alignment, and store readiness
  • Coordinate with compliance, finance, marketing, and HR teams to support retail operations
  • Support the CEO in the operational execution of new retail openings, including staffing, training, and systems implementation
  • Communication and Escalation
  • Serve as the primary operational communication link between retail teams and executive leadership
  • Escalate operational, compliance, or staffing issues to the CEO in a timely and solution‑oriented manner
  • Ensure clear and consistent communication flows to store‑level leadership

Minimum Qualifications

  • Professional appearance, attitude, and interpersonal/social skills
  • Must complete the application and Cannabis Commission licensing process in a timely and professional manner
  • Must possess valid driver's license
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in retail management
  • Associate degree in Business Administration, Operations Management, or related field
  • Strong track record of leading teams, driving performance, and achieving business objective
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks
  • Excellent customer service and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to maintain strict standards of confidentiality
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong computer skills Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook)
  • Ability to work independently and effectively with minimal supervision
  • Successful experience working in a team setting
  • Basic math skills
  • Accurate data entry and record‑keeping
  • Attention to detail and results orientated
  • Must successfully pass a background check
  • Must successfully pass a drug test for all substances non‑cannabis

Preferred Qualifications

  • In‑depth knowledge of cannabis industry regulations, supply chain management, and retail operations
  • Strong leadership, decision‑making, and problem‑solving skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments and build strong relationships with stakeholders
  • Knowledge of cannabis regulatory compliance including seed‑to‑sale tracking systems like METRC
  • Familiarity with enterprise systems including ERP, POS, and data systems to support data‑driven decision‑making
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to monitor and optimize operational performance using data and key performance indicators (KPIs)
  • Strategic thinker with a focus on long‑term growth and scalability
  • Experience working in a tribal setting

Physical Demands

  • The individual is required to regularly work at a computer and enter data for extended periods of time
  • The individual is required to listen and talk to individuals and before groups in the performance of the job
  • The individual is regularly called upon to deal with stressful situations and a high work volume
  • The individual is regularly required to stand and walk for extended periods of time
  • The individual is occasionally required to bend, stretch, and use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls and to reach with hands and arms
  • The individual is occasionally required to lift up to 25 lbs
  • The position requires some scheduling flexibility
  • Must be located in Minnesota and able to work onsite daily
