
Part-Time Recreation Specialist

Summary
Assists in scheduling, organizing, and implementing recreational programs at sports complexes or community centers.
Essential Functions
Supervise part-time recreation assistants
Complete day‑to‑day paperwork and cash reports
Facilitate or oversee recreational programming
Complete opening and closing procedures of facilities
Perform clerical duties as required
Perform related duties as directed
Community Recreation
Plan, schedule, supervise, and facilitate recreational activities and programs
Assist the public in registering for classes and reserving facilities by explaining policies and procedures, and completing necessary forms
Assist the supervisor in developing partnerships, soliciting donations, and recruiting new instructors
Assist with activities and special events for all ages, and supervise campers during seasonal camps and summer camp
Assist with activities, programs, and special events for adults ages 50+
Complete program evaluations and reports
Knowledge of recreation programming, cash handling experience, and classroom instruction preferred
Athletics and Aquatics
Plan, schedule, organize, and facilitate various classes, special events, leagues, and tournaments
Assist at outdoor recreation facilities like Safety City, Burgess‑Rushing Tennis Center, and adult recreation league locations
Complete program evaluations and reports
Assist with the operations of concessions and special events
Create promotional materials, league winner shirt designs, and other marketing materials as requested
Knowledge of league scheduling, officials scheduling, and cash handling experience
Qualifications Completion of a high school diploma or any combination of education and experience that provides the following:
Additional Qualifications
Basic computer skills with working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
Excellent customer service skills
This is a year‑round position. Must be able to work some weekends. Minimum 15 hours per week required
Texas Driver's License Required
Knowledge and Abilities Knowledge of:
Office practices and procedures, cash handling and reporting, data entry, filing, answering phones, and assisting customers
Ability to
Develop, promote, and implement recreational programs, activities, and special events
Assist the public in completing reservations, registering for programs, and answering questions about upcoming events
Design and produce publicity brochures, flyers, calendars and other promotional or informative documents
Direct or teach various classes and other projects at the center
Accurately collect and account for revenues from donations, rent, class fees, and concession sales
Maintain, organize, and inventory recreational equipment and other supplies
Maintain records and prepare pertinent reports
Work independently in the absence of specific instructions
Communicate effectively orally and in writing
Complete other duties as assigned
Physical Requirements
Occasionally lift and carry up to 30 pounds
Push and pull objects in order to set up tables and displays
Occasionally flex upper trunk forward at the waist and partially flex at the knees in order to retrieve objects from the safe
Place arms above, at or below shoulder height
