Associate Director of Student Support - Secondary Job Summary ​KIPP DC has eight secondary schools, serving 5th‑12th grades across Washington, DC. While working directly with school leadership teams and the Director of Student Support at middle and high schools, you will design programming to support students with special needs—IEP, 504, ELL, and other accommodations—to drive academic outcomes, care, and a sense of belonging. Through goal setting, planning, and instructional leadership you will coach staff, provide professional development, and set the vision for a supportive, rigorous, and inclusive school environment.

Salary: $94,082–$103,984 (full‑time, fully on‑site). Anticipated start: July 2026.

About the Student Support Team The Student Support Team (SST) directly addresses the needs of students by providing early intervention, accommodations, and tailored instruction. We collaborate with teachers, service providers, and school leaders to implement individualized plans that support academic, behavioral, and social‑emotional success.

About the Role Reporting directly to the Managing Director of Student Support, the Associate Director is an instructional leader who champions schools, teachers, and learners with exceptionalities. You will carry out duties at secondary schools and collaborate cross‑functionally to drive student outcomes.

Location and Type of Work This exempt position is fully on‑site—working in schools and headquarters during normal hours.

Responsibilities Student Support Instruction & Programming (80%)

Manage the Special Populations caseload for a designated school (IEP, 504, ELL)

Collaborate to design high‑quality IEPs and 504 plans with data‑aligned accommodations

Consistently monitor and evaluate progress toward individual and school‑wide goals in collaboration with SPED teachers, general‑education teachers, and related service providers

Participate in SST to support development of high‑quality interventions and fidelity to the Child Find process

Collaborate with school leaders to host weekly professional development sessions, provide input to department meetings, and coach teachers

Support special‑education staff in writing Present Levels of Performance, annual IEP goals, and quarterly progress‑report comments

Assist in onboarding and developing teacher case‑management skills

Analyze teacher and student data to design, coordinate, and facilitate professional development that increases expertise in content, methodology, and instruction delivery

Support a suite of special‑education learning programs

Drive an instructional vision focused on rigor, effort, and student autonomy; collaborate with the Instructional Leadership Team in content meetings

Create instructional priorities with secondary school teams

Manage a full continuum of services at schools and create a monitoring system for the continuum

Consult with school leadership to implement high‑quality RTI processes for academic and behavioral needs

Collaborate on an effective progress‑monitoring system for IEP and Tier 3 students

Work side‑by‑side with school leaders and the Managing Director to significantly improve achievement outcomes for special populations

Special Education Compliance (20%)

Understand IDEA and Section 504 law and their implications within KIPP DC’s local education agency

Articulate child‑find procedures and how they intersect with SST processes

Ensure completion of required documentation within timelines to maintain compliance (eligibility determinations, child‑find deadlines)

Facilitate MDT/504 meetings when needed

Manage the initial and triennial eligibility process in coordination with the Compliance Manager and related service providers

Learn and use KIPP DC’s Special Programs system for IEP, eligibility, and referral paperwork

Communicate regularly with families, building supportive home‑school relationships and addressing concerns professionally and timely

Requirements & Preferences Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree

Minimum of 5 years of special‑education teaching and school‑leadership experience in an urban setting

Experience working with secondary‑school urban students

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree

Prior experience as a Special‑Education Coordinator

Prior experience teaching or leading across the special‑education continuum

Demonstrated effectiveness in coordinating across functional teams

Ability to build relationships, influence, and motivate action

Superior analytical skills and sound judgment for autonomous decision‑making

Thrives in ambiguous and nuanced situations

Meticulous organization to set priorities, manage workload, and meet deadlines

Strong, responsive communication skills
