ChildRoots, a small family of locally and woman-owned childcare centers in Portland, Oregon, is seeking a Break Support Teacher (0.5 FTE, 5 days/40 hours per week) for our SE location. Since 2007, our progressive, play-based schools focus on guiding children's social and emotional development while encouraging exploration and inquiry. Our classrooms are designed to provoke curiosity, and our teachers make ChildRoots outstanding. About the Role

A Break Support Teacher works Monday through Friday, 8 hours per day, providing care and teaching for multiple rooms of about 20 preschool-age students (36+ months). This role is ideal for educators who: Value collaborative classroom environments that emphasize child-led learning and inquiry. Have a strong understanding of child development and pedagogy theory. Are passionate about mentoring young learners and supporting social and emotional development. Compensation & Benefits

At ChildRoots, we value fair, predictable compensation. The starting wage for this role is

$22.27/hour , with ongoing merit-based raises and routine wage adjustments. In the 2026-27 school year, starting wage for the Assistant role will increase to

$23.16/hour . Provide care and educational support for a consistent group of children. Foster a safe, engaging, and child-centered learning environment. Support the Lead Teacher to design and implement developmentally appropriate activities. Build and maintain strong relationships with families with clear and supportive communication. Participate in ongoing professional development and contribute to a positive workplace culture. Qualifications & Requirements

To be considered for a Teacher role at ChildRoots, applicants must: A minimum of a Step 4 in the Oregon Registry Be currently enrolled in Oregon's Central Background Registry or begin the process and complete it upon confirmation Meet the teacher-qualification criteria as outlined by the Office of Child Care requirements, which may include: Previous experience in a structured child care environment Completion of college-level courses in early childhood education-related subjects Degree in Early Childhood Education (or equivalent) preferred Complete Oregon’s Safety Set Trainings and required certifications, including: Pediatric CPR/First Aid Oregon Food Handler’s Card Introduction to Child Care Health & Safety Recognizing & Reporting Child Abuse & Neglect Prevention is Better than Treatment Safe Sleep for Oregon's Infants Our Work Culture
