General Description:

The Vocational Education Program Director will oversee pathway and vocational programs for students at English High School. The Voc. Ed. Program Director is responsible for providing school-wide leadership and support to in the following areas: implementation of the BPS Learning Standards, program development, and professional development. The English High School is seeking a visionary and dynamic individual to serve as an educational leader in our school. We are looking for a highly motivated, exceptional, results-oriented professional, who is committed to high standards of performance and achievement by both students and educators.

Responsibilities

Provide direction and leadership in the development of a comprehensive Vocational curriculum for grades 9-12.

Oversee the development and enhancement of the Vocational curriculum for instructional programs and collaborate with teachers and administration in the development and maintenance of the Vocational curriculum, including partnerships and grants.

Work with staff members, both in the classroom and in professional development opportunities, to support differentiated instruction and tiered interventions.

Monitor school data to determine trends and in turn develop and implement the most effective strategies for meeting and exceeding state and national student achievement goals.

Model, co-teach, and observe classes.

Provide feedback to support teachers in their efforts to provide accommodations, lesson modifications, and supports to a range of learners.

Support the creation and implementation of portfolios.

Assume a lead role in the professional development activities of special education, regular education teachers, and SEI teacher to improve instruction for all.

Lead a process for the evaluation, selection, and acquisition of instructional materials, supplies, equipment and textbooks to support the vocational curriculum.

Work with families to increase their engagement in their child's school experience.

Maintain responsive lines of communication among students, parents, and staff.

Support improved attendance and timeliness, homework completion, classroom on-task behavior, etc.

Act as the Vocational Education representative at disciplinary meetings.

Identify, evaluate, and encourage students to undertake rigorous and challenging course work.

Develop, foster, and maintain integration of learning across all instructional areas, career guidance, and special services to ensure students efficiently acquire relevant 21 st century skills.

Assist in administrations of all required assessments.

Assist in implementation of school based rules and BPS Code of Conduct.

Supervise and direct the work of teachers and support staff assigned to the department, including evaluation of their performance.

Perform other responsibilities as designated by the Headmaster.

Required Qualifications

Master’s Degree in Education or related field required.

Massachusetts Supervisor/Director license.

Five (5) years teaching and managerial experience.

Massachusetts Administrator teaching license in Vocational Education or related content area and SEI Endorsement.

Experience and training in the supervision and evaluation of teachers/as a professional developer.

Demonstrated leadership qualities, interpersonal skills, and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with students, teachers, administrators, and parents.

Ability to establish a diverse multicultural atmosphere that enhances individual growth and promotes a positive self-image.

Experience with and/or knowledge of educational reform.

Experience with and knowledge of advising programs.

Knowledge of MA Curriculum Frameworks, Vocational Frameworks, and Assessments.

Preferred Qualifications

Interest in working in fast-paced environment and ability to manage multiple responsibilities with humor and enthusiasm.

Terms:

BASAS, Group 9A, 209 Days

The BASAS contract year runs from September 1 through August 31. All BASAS members must work 183 school days with teachers. The additional days beyond the 183 school days shall be agreed upon with your supervisor. These days shall be considered ‘non-scheduled work’ days and should be coded by your supervisor or secretary as ‘S6500’ in the timesheet. The additional days may be fulfilled before, during, or following the school year, all work must be completed between September 1 and August 31.
