Orbis, a leader in land asset management solutions, is seeking a Senior Landman who will work as a technical expert handling complex land records projects and assignments for and on behalf of Orbis’ land management clients. The role will lead a variety of projects requiring broad knowledge of energy, forest management, minerals, and environmental operations including title, curative, land concepts, division of interests and regulatory requirements. The qualified candidate will have extensive experience in assessing complex land issues, researching possible solutions and collaborating across multi-functional teams to provide solutions.

The position will operate with a consultant mindset, serving as Orbis’ project lead for land services while also working with company leadership to build and develop a robust land services team and professional service line.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the investigation and resolution of land‑related concerns—including encroachments, access, land‑use monitoring, easements, right of ways for both operational activities and project initiatives across a national footprint.
  • Accountable for delivering comprehensive land records expertise and solutions for all ongoing land records-based operations, activities, and project work, covering a national geographic area and collaborating closely with various stakeholders to ensure consistent execution.
  • Guide the creation of repeatable workflows and land records support hierarchy.
  • Interpret various legal instruments, i.e. deeds, easements, leases, title documents, and tax documents to inform GIS and legal land record management workflows.
  • Support implementation and operational use of client-facing services involving leases, title issues, and property tax tracking.
  • Act as a knowledgeable liaison between internal departments (Account Management, Business Services, GIS, Client Services) and clients for land records related inquiries and projects.
  • Be seen as a subject matter expert in land records including title research, property tax workflows, land ownership structures and legal instruments.
  • Proactively identify potential legal/data mismatches and provide consultative guidance to internal teams and clients.
  • Foster relationships with external legal/title/tax professionals and guide solutions for Orbis land records based projects/services.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in land management, business, or related field.
  • AAPL Land Certification preferred
  • 5+ years of progressively responsible experience in land, real estate, mineral operations or related fields
  • Solid understanding of surface and sub-surface ownership principles with direct experience working on leases, legal ownership, title issues, and tax notices
  • Ability to read and interpret deeds, leases, surveys, title documents, and property tax information
  • Knowledge of utility operations, federal and state regulations related to land ownership, land acquisition, and real property processes preferred.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral, and attention to detail
  • A collaborative approach to work, with a successful record of planning, executing, and overseeing numerous complex projects simultaneously.
