
Sr. Global Strategy Engineer, Global Engineering Strategy

Role Overview
AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that keep customers continuously connected to the cloud. The Global Engineering Strategy (GES) team is seeking a results‑oriented, inventive Senior Data Center Engineer to drive the development, implementation, and delivery of enterprise data center strategies using AWS infrastructure builds that meet strict quality and performance levels worldwide.
Key Responsibilities
Collaborate with internal stakeholders during the due diligence phase to oversee the process and ensure design requirements are considered.
Gather data with internal teams to ensure pre‑requisites for the start of the design stage are met.
Lead the predesign phase and ensure design‑ready deliverables are handed over to the design team.
Analyze major intercept impacts on site plans and strategy.
Work with international utilities to understand HV/MV substation design and assess risk and impact on builds.
Provide engineering design decisions to the planning team for strategic planning and region selection.
Collaborate with mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and architects to assess how products can be deployed in a region.
Manage concurrent projects in multiple geographical regions.
Escalate issues as required and communicate clearly and effectively to audiences with varying technical abilities.
Travel & Availability Travel will occasionally be necessary but should not exceed 25% of the work. International support is part of the role.
Basic Qualifications
6+ years of data center design, construction, operations, or facility maintenance experience.
6+ years of industrial or commercial engineering in mission‑critical facilities such as data centers, power generation, or oil and gas facilities.
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field.
Knowledge of critical data center mechanical and electrical equipment.
Experience researching new designs, technologies, and construction methods of data center equipment and facilities.
Preferred Qualifications
Professional Engineering or Architectural license.
Knowledge of building codes and regulations for the region.
Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and deployment or mass production.
Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents.
Compensation and Benefits Salary ranges by location (annual):
Columbus, OH: $136,600 - $184,800
Austin, TX: $136,600 - $184,800
Herndon, VA: $136,600 - $184,800
Seattle, WA: $136,600 - $184,800
