The United States Army Band “Pershing’s Own,” the U.S. Army’s premier music organization, announces a vacancy for Social Media Manager.
The U.S. Army Band’s Public Affairs Office (PAO) manages how the organization communicates with the public, the media, and internal stakeholders to ensure its mission, performances, and personnel are accurately and compellingly represented. The office develops and distributes press releases, and multimedia content; manages social media and web presence; coordinates media relations and interview requests; and supports marketing and community engagement for concerts, tours, and special events. It also ensures all communications comply with Army and DoD policies, protects the Army’s brand and credibility, and helps tell The Army Band’s story in a way that builds public trust, awareness, and support for the Army’s mission.
Successful candidates will manage The U.S. Army Band’s social media presence, including maintaining a content calendar, creating user generated video content from concept to release, and leading a team of content creators. They will join a three-person, in-house Public Affairs/Marketing shop led by a civilian director. We are seeking applicants that demonstrate the following:
Highly-motivated, creative, and analytical social media professional with a proven ability to research audience trends and translate insights into high-impact content
Strong communicator with refined visual intelligence and technical fluency across major social media platforms
Technical competency with Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube
Strong work ethic and “can-do” attitude
Ability to contribute to an established team
Strong knowledge of band and orchestral repertoire, as well as jazz and various forms of popular music
Eager and willing to add to your knowledge base and skills
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Sets clear growth and engagement goals, tracks performance, and uses data to continuously optimize content and strategy in line with established KPIs and Content Pillars
Develops, produces, and manages compelling multimedia content that drives engagement, builds brand awareness, and supports event promotion
Optimizes content for reach, discoverability, and platform‑specific best practices
Collaborates seamlessly with marketing, digital media, and web teams to ensure cohesive messaging and execution
Stays current on emerging tools, technologies, analytics, and social media trends
Brings hands‑on experience in analytics, photography, and visual storytelling
Demonstrates a passion for music—especially band, orchestral, jazz, and popular genres—enhancing authentic audience connection
Elevates the organization’s digital presence through strategic storytelling and audience‑focused content execution
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
Demonstrable experience writing, shooting, editing, and crafting content for social media
At least 2 years of experience creating engaging content and managing social media properties in a professional environment
Experience with Meta Business and preferred social media management tools
Demonstrable experience leveraging social media management and analytics tools to align content with established KPIs and Content Pillars.
Experience in explaining complex social media data in an understandable way
Strong visual intelligence to create visually appealing photographs and graphics
Strong media literacy with the ability to access, analyze, and evaluate media in different forms
Possess the ability to identify potential engagement opportunities and the ability to map work to trending news
Possess a passion for learning new technology tools, including graphic design and photography
Ability to engage and form partnerships with communications leaders in other organizations
Preferred Qualifications
Familiarity with project management software or applications (monday.com)
Knowledge of Canon photography equipment
