This posting is to fill the current vacancy and to establish an eligibility list for the future vacancies that may occur in the next six months.
Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or equivalent. Three years' experience in bus or rail transportation. Must be knowledgeable of and can administer the current labor agreement. Must have knowledge of MARTA bus routes or rail lines and personal computer applications. Should also understand dispatching and utilizing the automated dispatch system. Must have good communication skills both written and verbal. Must be conscientious, demonstrate a high degree of dependability, be detail oriented, and possess high level organization skills. Demonstrated leadership and multi-tasking skills are desired.
Interview Selection Process
The selection process may include one or more components to demonstrate applicants' knowledge, skills and abilities in job related areas. These may include exercises such as practical demonstrations, written communications, oral interviews and/or competency assessments.
Summary
Observe and analyze multiple computer-generated displays and verbal reports from bus operators and field supervisors in order to monitor, control, direct and supervise the status and movement of all buses in and out of service. Work is always characterized by high mental concentration and close supervision. Responsible for the adherence to schedules and continuous bus service. Use the MARTA Communications System to receive, document and report all facility problems, equipment malfunctions and emergencies to appropriate personnel. Initiates and supervise immediate alternative methods of operations during abnormal conditions. Supervise ongoing communications with all MARTA operations vehicles, street supervisors, line maintenance personnel, and emergency personnel. May perform as lead Dispatcher upon request. Has the authority to interpret and implement management policies or operating practices. Perform work that effects business operations to a substantial degree. Responsible for interpreting management policies regarding bus operating practices. Ensure communication with MARTA vehicles on an assigned console. Receive radio reports of exceptions to normal service, takes corrective measures or consult with Radio Communications Supervisor for appropriate action, and advises remedial action as necessary.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Observe and analyze multiple computer-generated displays and verbal reports from bus operators and fields supervisors in order to monitor, control, direct and supervise the status and movement of all buses in and out of revenue service to ensure schedule adherence and proper bus operations. Performs constant visual monitoring of buses on MARTA's AVL System and communicates by radio and telephone with various internal and external personnel.
Closely monitor, direct, control and supervise the manual movement of all buses and non-revenue vehicles. Responsible for knowing the status of all equipment monitoring revenue service. Receives and relays all reports of mechanical difficulties on MARTA buses and non-revenue vehicles.
Take appropriate action on communication received from operators, field supervisors, maintenance personnel, Police Services and other personnel regarding emergencies, accidents, incidents, rail service interruptions and malfunctions; dispatches appropriate personnel and equipment to resolve breakdowns, safety issues and other service disruptions with the shortest possible time frame; communicates with management and senior management regarding these problems.
Analyze computer-generated information in conjunction with other system information for purpose of anticipating changes in system operational requirements. Issues specific instructions to bus operators to eliminate or minimize delays.
Receive and document all reports of facility problems and equipment malfunctions and notifies appropriate maintenance personnel. Assigns extra buses to eliminate delays and skips practices in service. Has the authority
to interpret and implement management policies and operating practices. Reports hazardous conditions and recurring problems to the proper authority.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Instruct supervisors and operators on the management of revenue and non-revenue vehicles in service.
